Some good news for the left in Europe

Funny, that's not the message, I'm picking up from Spain where I live, or in France, where I've been staying since the weekend, both EU member states,of course.

Then again, I don't get my information exclusively from FB,as you would appear to do.

I rest my case. Because you don't want to see or hear it. You have a closed political mind my friend. Your so entrenched in your political views it's blinkered you to any other way of thinking, seeing or understanding things.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried squire. Unlike you I have an open political mind and see both sides to a story/argument and only then make a judgement based on what I see and hear.

Ha! The idea that you are open minded about anything is just this. :hilarious:

In other words bury you're head in the sand and hope all will turn out as you want but all along knowing full well it won't. And there you have it. Socialism in a nutshell.

The EU has been handed a clear sign that the people are turning away from and rejecting a one size fits all federalist, centralised rule in their droves. All over the European continent it's becoming abundantly clear that socially, unfettered and unchecked migration and integration doesn't work. The powers that be within the EU will ignore these signs at their peril.

Although we all know theEU in it's current form is doomed and dyeing a slow death. The writing was on the wall months and months before Brexit but the people driving the train couldn't look in the mirrors for long enough to see what was catching them and if they did they were so blinkered nothing was going to stop the drive for that utopian ideal that is the European Federalist Superstate.

Just like Tangled's French and Spanish neighbours, this is one bit of your post I don't agree with. No the EU will collapse a lot quicker than people think. Just like the Titanic took years to plan and build but just 2 hours to sink.

Agreed,

Italy and Greece will be off very soon, the EU is a dead duck.

See, that's where you know absolutely diddly squat about me and my political leanings. There are some Labour policies I whole heartedly agree with and there are some Conservative ones I agree with too The Lib Dems, now that's another case :D . I nail my political allegiance to no one fixed mast which is why I've never voted.

I thought I would resurrect this thread rather than starting a new one, as TUIB's initial post was regarding the Austrian general election.

So on that note, Today is once again election day in Austria after calling for a snap election. Although the polls are currently still open, it is widely expected for the centre right party (OVP) to win and form a coalition with the far right party (FPO) to form a goverment.

So no "good news for the left in europe" this time around i'm afraid TUIB.

During the campaign, both parties have focused on securing border controls, quickly deporting illegal immigrants & failed asylum seekers, as well as cutting welfare benefits to refugees and stopping payments altogether until foreigners have lived in the country for 5 years.

Should Sebastian Kurz win, he will be the youngest leader in Europe ( and i believe in the world) at the ripe old age of 31.

As a side, it is also polling day in lower saxony, Germany. Where they think Merkel's party might get a bit of a kicking in the polls there.

The best news "for the left in Europe" is that the Tories under Mrs May are currently in government in the UK.They won't be much longer.

Edit.In any case internationally speaking, I would have said that the most significant elections taking place today are in Venezuela rather than Austria.:winking:
