bloody hell, give the guy a chance! remember when Fortune signed? he's turned everyone around, maybe Nouble will too

When I said Nouble is clearly not doing it, it was because he was being seen as a forward. I've seen Nouble on a couple of occasions and IMO he is not a forward. He is a wide player in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-3 system as is McLaughlin. Of course he needs time to prove himself. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

fair enough mate. this isn't how forums are supposed to go, we're supposed to shout at each other

Just had a moment to think about our squad.

Gk: Smith Oxley

Df: Coker innis Thompson white ferdinand demetriou O'Neil

Mf: mcloughlin Atkinson bridge timlin Amos Leonard wordsworth mcglashan hines

Att: fortune Cox nouble Robinson mooney and possibly ranger.

I can't remember having a squad with such depth in a long while. There is genuinely strength in depth. I haven't really thought about it and hoped for action today...but actually we are in really good shape. Robinson is different from what we have.

Scunthorpe and Bolton at home then the rest is below us in the table. Things are looking really bright.

Has Barrett retired?

The season Tilly took us up, I agree that we had a paper thin squad and got very lucky in terms of injuries and suspensions. A lot has been made of Leicester City last year, but that is exactly what happened to us. It was a dream season where everything came together, we rode our luck, played great football and had a collective spirit on and off the pitch. It was our own miracle looking back. The reality of the average promotion is the depth of a squad and how you can replace players with others that stand up to the challenge. I agree that there are key players that would leave a hole, but for a lot of positions there is challenge and variety which is a massive positive. I have left some transfer windows praying we don't get three injuries because we could be decimated. This window there is a decent squad standing in a good place with a chance of the playoffs.

We didn't get lucky with injuries and suspensions. If you look at our title winning side only 5 players made 40 starts - the keeper; Barrett, for the 4th consecutive season; Maher, for the 5th consecutive season; Che Wilson for the 4th season in 5 (the odd one out being the one where he lost his place) and Guttridge for the third time in 4 seasons (like Che, the odd season out was when he lost his place and moved to Southend mid-season). That's not luck: they were proven durable players (and you can add in Gower who'd started 40+ matches for the previous 3 seasons; Edwards who'd perennially played 50+ matches).

We had a small squad but we looked for durable players and versatile players. For example we had three players (Jupp, Hunt, Wilson) to cover both full-back positions rather than having three specialist right-backs (plus a youth player, plus a couple of midfielders who can cover there) like we currently have.

Nouble is clearly not doing it

What a silly thing to say when the lads only been here 5 minutes and the club has literally had one game during his time here. I'm far from convinced he'll be any good but that's just taking the biscuit a bit!!!!

Matty when I said Nouble wasn't doing it I didn't mean in in a derogatory way. It was in response to him being listed as an out-and-out striker. I've seen him play a couple of times and he played wide in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-3 system not as a central striker. Of course he will need time and opportunity to prove himself, but I don't seem him as a central striker. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Bloody hell chill out mate. He'd already backed himself up. Read the thread properly before criticising :moon:

It's not the first time I've seen that system quoted on here. I'm all for attacking football but 4-4-3 has one major disadvantage.

You lot don't miss much do you? Of course I meant 4-3-3, but playing 4-4-3 is OK, as you use a "rush goalie" :winking:

I believe the standard international playground rule reads as follows) Rush goalie may only be used when you have one player less than the opposition. If both teams have equal players on each side then on no account can a "rush goalie" be permitted.

Aaaaah, but your clearly not familiar with Childhood Playground rule 27-6/D Which clearly states........

A rush goalie can only be used in the following circumstances:

1. He has used his coat as one of the goal posts!

2. He has provided the Ball.

3. He has been given the task of getting down on all fours to retrieve the match ball from underneath a stationary car (or thorny bushes) when the ball is kicked outside of the playing area.

4. If your losing 14-0 with only 10 minutes to go, before your mum calls you in for dinner.

The standard garment recommended for use as a post is always a jumper.

Admittedly these rules were carved in stone when coats were only worn for any length of time during in the winter of 63. Occasionally a fussy mother would permit a coat for snowball fights as pitches were frozen or to create a dangerous ice slide on a section of pavement, usually outside some old gits house who never like children anyway.

When he was at Chelsea and West Ham I was under the impression Nouble was an attacking midfielder of sorts, in the hole but deeper...
