Blues' youngsters offered new deals

Will any of them ever start a first team game though? Blooding our youngsters in the first team seems to be a thing of the past now.

Not so.

Dan Bentley, Jack Payne, Jason Williams, Ted Smith, Harry Kyprianou and Jack Bridge are just some that I can think of. Prior to Dan there hadn't been any for some time... Michael Kightly maybe? Blooding them over the last 2/3 years is very much a thing of the present.

Remember the name Jordan Williams .... this kid should never be let go .... he has electric pace + every match ive seen him play ( about 8 or 9 ) he's been the best player on the pitch. He is the quickest right back and is like Jason Demetroiu but doesnt often stub his toe , fall over or shoot wide ....

Good luck son ,,,,, you ve still got a great career ahead of you ...

The coaches see him every day in training so sure they've made the right call. Need more than just pace to be successful, he was one of few who were involved in pre-season two years ago but has never really come on since.

Great news! But are they going to get minutes?

I'm sure they'll take part if in pre-season, play 45 minutes against Great Wakering and such but that's not going to make them first team regulars...

Why can't the club enter the stiffs into the Essex Senior League?....refuse promotion if they finished high enough, would be a great learning curve for the youth.

Think it's Plymouth who do that with their youth/reserve team with their local regional division.

It's about as popular as Premier League under 23 teams in the EFL for the exact same reasons.

How many of those actually came through the ranks though. In the main they joined us when released from bigger clubs or we signed them from elsewhere

Can't forget some of those we've sold to those further up the ladder at a young age too.

Dom Iorfa and Isaac Hayden both look likely to be playing in the Premier League next season, Payne could join them.

Then there's the likes of Ngoo, Poleon, Kamara, etc who don't make it but are doing alright in League 1/2.

Saw him a few times; was definitely the best J. Williams on the club's books at the time.

Good old Echo, states 9 players in the link, but listed Harry Phillips twice.

Josh Bexon

Sonny Coutts
Dan Matsuzaka,
Harry Phillips
Joe Bedford
Renei Batlokwa
Nico Cotton
Norman Wabo

Don't know a great deal about any of them, but wish them the greatest of luck for the next season. I did see an article about
Batlokwa sometime ago stating the boy has serious skill and pace...

Don't know... but if we didn't have the Academy we've got - which by all accounts is terrific - we would neither have signed the ones we did or sold the ones that we have.

We are now nicking the players from London teams rather than the other way around and we get far more in transfer fees for the youths than we do for the seniors (Bentley and Payne excepted).

Am I right in believing that Batlokwa is Botswanian?

Indeed ! He was born in Botswana, and I think he has played for their national side. Interestingly still is that the Botwana national team are managed by none other than ex-Shrimper...

Peter Butler !
