Joey Barton

Are you related to Barton GB Jnr? You seem unduly bothered by this violent oik getting this punishment.

Goalkeeper or vital player carrying a knock but is going to play on ?

For Barton to benefit from that scenario, his win would have to be a direct result of that injured player, playing through injury. There's simply too many variables for it to make a significant difference.

For example, Man City vs Man Utd (as its on tonight, and therefore was the first game to pop into my head). Barton discovers that Aguero is injured, but intends to play on. He decides to use this information to his advantage & bets on Man Utd. Sure enough, Man Utd win. But... is their win solely attributed to Aguero playing through injury? Due to the amount of variables, that could be attributed to a teams win, it's incredibly unlikely & therfore impossible to determine that Barton won a bet based on inside information.

Yes he's my niece.

Tbh I think the thing that irks me the most in this situation, is how the whiter-than-white FA, are intent on very heavy punishment for issues regarding money, yet it's inconsistent with what myself, and many others would seem to be worse offences, such as violence & drug cheating.

It's almost as if the authorities were more interested in the monetary aspect of the sport, rather than the actual game :sherlock:

If Joey had a mate, like Gazza had the Fat Belly Bloke then he ought to have got his mate to put the bets on for him and that would be acceptable to the FA.
Joey is a plonker & the FA are often outdated in their ways as reflects a bunch of old rich " club" blazer wearers.

If the authorities were interested in the actual game surely they'd prioritise cases where "Bet placed on particular occurrence(s) involving the player who bet (spot bet)" and consider as the first factor when determining sentence:

"Overall perception of impact of bet(s) on fixture/game integrity"

I expected, from the fuss, that Barton had made a profit from his betting, but he LOST over 16 k, spread over the years and only bet big in the last 1/2 seasons. I have just skim read the 60 plus pages of the report but without doubt he is a twit and the whole thing is a storm in a twit cup.

not at the Crown casino in Melbourne , but i doubt very much you have been there , you find it hard to go a couple of miles to support the team you say you support ,reading the threads.:hilarious:

You are obviously completely wrong about the casino in Melbourne. I mean, what has you actually living in Austrailia and your son working there gives you authority to comment on such matters? Know your place mister, Mrs Blue knows all.......

I'm sure you know the rest of the last sentence.

He lost £750 when he bet on Newcastle to beat Stevenage when he was in the starting line-up. Clearly as useless at gambling as he was on the field.

As for the £3.50 he put on himself as first goalscorer for one game...

As an aside, Google James Tandy (the guy he assualted with a lit cigar when at Man City). What a waste (and a piece of dirt).

The guy is a complete scumbag and doesn't deserve the career that he's had.

I'm sure the youth team player who he stubbed his cigar on or Ousmane Dabo, who he assaulted are thanking karma right now.

He wasn't playing when he bet on his own team to lose, correct? So no way of him influencing the game, for him to profit from. And betting on yourself to be first goalscorer isn't exactly influencing a game either. It's not as if you're going to try & not score. Is the crime that bad? Does the punishment fairly reflect the crime? I don't think so.

Fans of nearly every team in the world are able to go and watch their team train on a daily basis, if they wish. Does that make them privy to what's going on aswell?

And come on now, let's be honest, how can anyone know "what's likely to happen during a game", unless they can predict the future? I could pop down to Boots & Laces & try and glean a few inside tips, but it doesn't mean they'll come to fruition on Sunday.

I agree with you, what he's done is daft, especially if the rules are there in black and white. However, is the punishment for this arbitrary, or predetermined? Because quite simply, does the punishment fit the crime? 18-months & the effective end of someone's playing career!?

- Cantona tried decapitating someone & recieved 9-month ban
- Luis Suarez biting recieved a 4-month ban
- Kolo Toure taking PEDs earned a 6-month ban
- Adrian Mutu, banned for 7 months for sniffing Coke
- Bosnich banned for 9 months for the same reason
- Ferdidnand's missed drugs test saw him banned for 8 months
- The longest Football ban I can find, was Maradona's 15-month ban for drug taking whilst playing in the World Cup.

Again, what Barton did was stupid, considering the rules are crystal clear. But does his actions deserve the most consequential & heaviest ban ever seen* in English Football?

*I can't recall, or find anything bigger than the 18-month ban?

It's not just about that, it's about what is effectively insider trading. He did this more than once. If he was a city trader using insider knowledge he'd probably go to jail, and I suspect many on here would say he deserved it.

If you lookat my photo Mrsknowitall you will see one of my friends sitting in front of me ,he could buy the whole club and still be mega rich .

Is Pac really you're friend? I remember you saying that you had a friend, who had a friend, who was mates with Pac's bodyguard a few years back, in one of the boxing threads?

And if this is the case, can you get me a signed glove please? :winking:
