While having a clear out, I have come across a few old tapes from camcorders from back in the day. Does anyone know someone, or have the facilities themselves to put these onto modern storage?
They have footage on of old holidays etc and I'd really like to view them again

TIA

Hi DWB,

I know that some "selected" Snappy Snaps stores do, as I recently went into one of their branches in Maidstone to get some old family projector slides converted into Photo's and noticed they also do Camcorder Video's to DVD (which at the time, I thought would be good to remember for the same reason one day).

I'm presuming by your profile that you still live in Eastwood? so would be worth giving a quick call to the branch in Southend to see if they offer the service.

Update: I've just checked their website, and their Southend branch located on the Southchurch Road states that they do offer the new Camcorder - DVD service.
So once you have it on DVD, you could always burn it on to a memory stick or SD card at any point in the future if you wanted to.

Anyway, the link to their shop is below:

I don't the individual costs or how many camcorder tapes you want to convert, but if you are quite tech savvy (or know someone who is) another option might be to pop down to Maplin (or of course order online) as they sell converter kits for about £60. You could probably find other similar products on Amazon, and a bit cheaper also.

Hope this helps.

That's great. Thanks for taking the time to do some digging, really appreciate it

I've half-a-dozen 8mm Sony camcorder tapes I want to put on disc before they deteriorate. Chap at Snappy Snaps in Southend said about £10-£12.50 per tape, depending on the number of tapes you have done. May go in on Saturday.

Took mine in on Sunday and collect Thursday. I had 5 so cost 12.50 each. Goes down to 10.50 each for 6 or more. Not 100% what's on them, I'm hoping some old holiday footage and the kids when young

Got my DVD's back yesterday from Snappy Snaps. Great footage of the kids when there were babies an toddlers. Footage of my now departed dogs when they were pups as well as my cats who are gone too.

Found some footage of me in Corfu from about 95 and it seems i was rather ripped back in the day, god knows what happened

Great service by Snappy Snaps, pretty quick too. I took in 5 camcorder tapes and 3 VHS tapes, £84 for the lot. Have only had time to view one dvd but it was a cracker, so many great memories and more than a few surprises. If the other dvds are even half as good I'll be a very happy bunny

Ta the reminder, now completed that. Really looking forward to watching the next disc, can't think what might be on it.
