Frank De Boer is sacked after 77 days and 5 games at Palarse with that "legend" Woy Hodgson taking over.

To be fair to Hodgson, his record at pretty much anywhere below the very top tier is excellent. Quite why Palace appointed De Boer and gave him so little time is another matter altogether.

I think the thing that grates, or at least doesn't make sense, with the De Boer sacking is that the Palace board knew exactly what they were getting with him, and seemed to plump for him for those precise reasons. They'd established themselves as a Premier League side and now wanted to become a more aesthetically pleasing side to watch, making the use of some of the flair they had/have in attack. They knew, or at least they should have known, that transitioning to such a style would've taken time, and they've completely bottled it at the first sign of trouble. This essentially nails Palace's colours to the mast now as far as their culture goes; they wish to stay in the top flight by whichever means necessary, and aren't prepared to endure any short-term pain for potential upside.

You have to wonder though if the surprisingly good starts by the likes of Huddersfield and possibly Burnley have put the frighteners on Parish and co. Palace played well at the weekend and if there were more clubs around them at the bottom I do wonder if they'd be more inclined to stick it out.

Reading a little about this, there were issues between players and De Boer at training, as well, so maybe they decided he was a bad fit anyway. The word is that he was almost sacked two weeks ago.

He additionally didn't last long at Inter Milan for similar reasons.

That said, Palace do like to rotate their managers!

Agree with all of this, they have hit the panic button. Palace are trying to do a Stoke basically. Stoke wanted a change from Pullis style football after establishing themselves in the premier league and the gamble paid off. West ham did the same to a lesser extent moving away from Alladyce football. Palace have totally panicked and given up on their gamble far too early, no manager can make a significant mark in that space of time. Heard that Alladyce was approached to come back! The Palace board have been made to look very amateur.

I'd love to be a football manager, 'work' for 77 days, do **** and then get my contract paid up... It's like a lottery win if they've given you a 3 or 4 year deal! Roberto Di Matteo is another example, he earned £100k a week not being Chelsea's manager!

Gary Caldwell becomes casualty number three of the season, after being sacked by Chesterfield.

..........

And Harry Redknapp becomes number four, after being sacked by Birmingham.

Sad for Harry. though hardly a suprise . There's still hope for 70 year olds though as Palace's new manager proves!:smiles:

... and Michael Brown at Port Vale.

Caldwell's post-match was the usual "it's all the referee's fault" nonsense. So, nothing to do with winning 3 games in 6 months then!

You never hear "The ref' gave us a penalty which never was. Our goal was definitely yards offside and their one that was disallowed was miles ONside. Our red was definitely correct; their's wasn't. We were so lucky the ref' was bias towards us".

Saw this on Facebook....

" Cox is shocking, honestly awful, isnt quick, isnt strong, cant *@&% shoot, always loses the ball, its like playing with 10 men and its holding us back. Rather have Mooney back or even better get Anthony Straker back n stick him up top"

:hilarious:

That'll be Port ValLLLLLLLe!

I see that ex Shrimper Peter Taylor is taking over at Gillingham temporarily until they find a new manager on a permanent basis.

Well he didn't last long, has just been showed the door at Priestfield (by mutual consent). Their fitness coach also left the club this week, could be welcoming news for posh fans this weekend.

I thought he was Director of Football prior to being temp manager

See what mood he is in and might have a chat to him Sunday at Club Kingswood as he warms up:smile:

Craig Shakespeare next out the door.

Much like De Boer, a decision most definitely influenced by the good form of Watford, Burnley and all three promoted clubs which has put more pressure on stagnant, mid-table also-rans to maintain their gravy train status.
