Kay - I was speaking with Ten on Saturday for a while. He has a bruised bone in his shoulder, and was in London seeing a specialist last week, has another scan soon, but going to be out for a little while longer (cant remember how many weeks he said)

With nothing documented I honestly thought Ted's injury was a hoax to get Bishop around the first team to boost a potential value. Similar to Femi Orenuga at his appearance against Telford right before signing for Everton.

Obviously this fixture was less important than League games and therefore not top priority, but it was good to see we have over 1,000 ardent supporters. We saw an interesting, quite entertaining game with all the youngsters showing why they are worth persevering with but also, with the exception of Kyp,why they are not yet ready for regular first team football.Of the "seniors",Oxley was excellent-again and Fortune' is still a class above, but the performance of Robinson and McGlashan highlighted their limitations.

I think I would have to disagree with you over Elvis's readiness. I've seen him twice live in 1st team league action before last night and he hasn't let us down on either occasion.

i wonder how the young Reading right back is feeling this morning after the torrent of abuse and chanting he got 1st half last night. On nights when the crowd is so low everyone can hear anything anyone shouts so hopefully the lad hasnt chucked his boots away and jumped off a tall building.

I'm all for a bit of great banter but that was a wee bit cruel last night.

:nope::nope::nope:

Yes, mentioned it in my report - no idea what it was about, but it was well over the top for a young lad to be abused like that.

Shame. He's missing out big time.

I'd have to agree. Elvis is ready for first team action, as it Dru

I don't agree, Dru was ok last night but not great. Jack Bridge is way ahead in my opinion, of those three midfielders last night.

I know I'm in a minority but I saw nothing in dru last night that made me think he could slot straight in. Elvis is good, but his inexperience shows in that he was regularly out of step with the rest of the back 4 and/or out of position and was getting told so by oxley a lot.

At least we've turned a corner now and aren't abusing our own players like it.

Exactly.

If this lad wants to break into Reading's first team he'll be playing at places like Hillsborough, the Stadium of Light and Elland Road. If he can't take a bit of stick from two men and a dog in a nothing game at Roots Hall I suggest he hangs up his boots now.

Yes,as I've said before ,he's highly promising and should deputise at RB ahead of White on Saturday but it was ludicrous at Charlton when he got exploited and kept on with Demi on the bench! and I'm told he struggled badly at Shrewsbury.

All 3 players (Elvis/Dru/Bridge) are ready to step up into the first team, but only when required, not as first choice yet.

Elvis gave the ball away at Shrewsbury when they hit the post (or it might have been Dru) and Elvis was partially to blame for thier goal, however he also did a lot of good things.

Thats the problem, none of them are consistant enough and will make mistakes and give the ball away cheaply, get caught out of position, make rash tackles etc.

Give Elvis and Dru another couple of seasons to probably be Championship players with us :winking:

You can say that about every Southend player though

if they didn't they would be elsewhere in a higher league...

I know. My point being that the younger players are being called out as not ready for the first team as they give the ball away, make rash challenges and get caufht out of position but as every other Southend player is the same, I can't see a difference between playing the youngsters or the older players who are just as bad

The game on Tuesday showed that very point, if you didn't know our team, the youngsters didn't look out of place....and some of the seniors looked worse

What I meant was as younger players they do it more often. Most professional footballers have a very similar skill set (probably the same for most professional sports peolpe), and there is probably no more than a tiny percentage difference between a premiership player and a league two player in terms of skills.

What differentiates them is the number of mistakes made, concentration, positional sense, temperment and mental mindset. Most of these attributes come with age and experience.

Yes there are exceptional talents, like Messi, Ronaldo, and the other end like Tomlin (and Timlin), but I am generalising.

Bwomono is 19 next month and has appeared in just 4 first team games for us (and alongside the rest of the back 4 he wasn't yet in sync with). Jack Bridge is 22 and has 5 minutes worth of league experience this season, 109 minutes in the league last season (plus 11 minutes in the league cup) and 76 minutes the previous season.

The question we need to ask is why are our youngsters so inexperienced? We need to be giving them more match time in League One to get their experience up. Be it time off the bench when matches are already lost (5-0 v Rotherham) or as good as won (3-1 up v 10 men at Fleetwood), or when our season is over.

Was he injured all last year? How come he didn't feature at all then?

We can't use their inexperience as an excuse when we are missing the opportunities to give them experience. Why didn't Yearwood get the last 30minutes+ at 4-1 down?
