Tomorrow's referee is Tim Robinson from Bognor Regis, not to be confused with the cricket umpire of the same name or the LGBT rights activist and singer/songwriter of a very similar name.

He is one of the 18 referees who comprise SG2, full-time referees operating predominantly in the Championship and, in my opinion, he is rather fortunate to be doing this for a living. However someone likes him as he gets plenty of good appointments and more than his share of televised games. On Saturday he was at Sunderland, unlike some.

He is in his sixth season as a League referee and he has refereed Southend 8 times before, the most recent being when he was the best of two Robinsons on display in the goalless stalemate at home to Rochdale a couple of months back. Yellows were tied at 3-3, ours going to Elvis, McLaughlan and Cox. They got the red card though, although he needed a bit of persuading by the "lino".

His first appearance at Roots Hall was also his first ever League match for our 1-0 home defeat to Accrington at the start of 2012/13. A forgettable match, like most of Sturrock's home games that season (and many more since!). He cautioned Prosser and a couple of theirs and whilst he wasn't wonderful, he was okay.

An improvement was evident in the second Southend match he refereed, the drawn home match with Bristol Rovers early 2013/14 when I thought he had a very good match. He cautioned 4 of theirs and for us, again, Prosser. Prosser was actually very lucky his yellow wasn't a red !

His first Southend away match was also 2013/14 at Plymouth for the 1-1 draw there, with just two cautions for Plymouth and none for us.

Then came the match away at Northampton in 2014/15 (1-1 again). A bit of a cardfest with 8 yellows and that red for Prosser. Our other yellows went to Leonard and Thompson.

Next was the same season's home match, which we nearly won but finished up drawing 2-2 with Wycombe. Two yellows apiece, ours to White and, inevitably, Prosser.

Then came our first win (3-0) with him in charge, the season before last's JPT match at Crawley. Just cautions for Wordsworth and one of theirs. (Yes, Prosser was playing.)

He returned to Roots Hall for our League Cup 1-3 defeat to Gillingham at the start of last season. A caution for Adam King and 2 of theirs, including Josh Wright.

A referee who likes to be noticed, his 20 matches this season have produced a low-ish 55 yellows and a high-ish 8 reds. Last season it was the yellows that were high with 185 of them and 9 reds from 44 matches.

Assistants are Darren Blunden from Dartford and Daniel Robathan from Dorking. Fourth Official will be first season Football League referee, Brett Huxtable from Barnstaple.

If there are any call-offs in the Championship this mid-week, he would probably be one of the first choices to be re-assigned possibly leaving Huxtable in the middle.

Are you not thinking of Tom Robinson? 2-4-6-8 Motorway.

Hence my carefully selected use of the words "same" and "similar".

Without wishing any ill will towards the officials.....does Mr Huxtable carry a good reputation Mick ?
