Ceremonial lighting of the log/coal open fire, with toasted marshmallows, roasted sweet chestnuts, and some hot toddy.

Hang my stocking up for Santa to fill up, put out his milk and biscuits, I have no idea how he gets down the chimney once the fire is alight, but the milk and biscuits are always gone in the morning and my stocking is full.

Maplin Close. I thought they stopped doing it but might be wrong.

Yeah, they did, couple of the original residents moved out or died and no-one seemed to be bothered after. Been quite a few years since it was there.

My daughter's Brownie pack and Guide company used to go and sing carols there each year. The residents used to put on hot drinks and mince pies and lots of money used to be raised for Little Havens.

Moan about the forthcoming lack of quality TV whilst secretly hoping Ben Hur or the original Jason and the Argonauts is on. Remember when Christmas was magical when I was a kid and even more magical when I had young kids of my own.

This year is going to be a little different. Not too sure about Christmas Eve itself but Mrs ORM started work earlier this year as a care assistant. She is definitely working Christmas Day morning so I may go with her

One of my all time favourite films - so far ahead of its time with its effects. It can be nice working Christmas Day and think of the cheery message she'll be bringing to all her clients.

In France, of course, they celebrate Xmas Eve with a Réveillon (long evening meal) .We tend to do the same, whether we're in France or not, (which we won't be this year).

Made a big batch of mincemeat - not a tradition, but it will be from now on. #gorgeous

I did have Christmas lunch sitting on the beach on the 24th, with a big group of mainly Swedes, as that is when they traditionally have their dinner.

It was the island of Phi Phi Don in 1997. Many of them worked on the dive boats and when the 2004 tsunami hit early that morning some of them were in the dive shops doing a briefing with the resort divers. They were washed to the back of the shops and drowned.

Just 2 days later I was back at work on the Boxing day, I landed at 06:00 that morning. We had a 'shout' to a large burst water main in Hackney. I remember wading around in freezing water, telling my mate how wonderful life is if your a dive instructor on Phi Phi......I'm mean what could ever go wrong in paradise.
