We have an average age of 29 I notice.That's the oldest in L1.
 
You might not win anything with kids but you certainly won't with has beens. Wimbledon fielded plenty of 'veterans' on Monday but the difference was their old timers have been around the lower leagues for ages and the stats show they can still play plenty of games per season. It's a different matter signing a bunch of fading higher league stars with poor injury records and few appearances at that level in recent years and expect them to recapture their past glories in a more physically demanding league. Fairly basic really.

Look at the current Prem. stats.(WBA at the top with an average age of 29+) and it's not until you get down to Burnley's 7th "oldest " team that you find a side at the right end of the division.

What I mean is if you have a team of so called class players unless they can play as a team you are wasting your time .
 
We have the youngest average in league 2, just 24, a very tough time for some of those kids facing the more direct physical teams in this division.
 
...so to summarise, to be competitive you probably a mixture of both youth and experience ?

Yes it is such a shame for Luke it was a freak injury but I am beginning to wonder if he will ever play again. His contract is up at the end of this season so even if he does regain his fitness he may be released. Ryan Inniss shoulder injury is not the same as his previous problem and he is back in full training with a view to playing very soon. Looks like another long term injury victim Kurtis Guthrie is back to full fitness and also Brennan Dickenson two of our best players last season. We won't bother with Anton Ferdinand thanks, I think his potential was spent a while ago.
 
To be fair he did have a pretty good season last year but this season has had to cope with a series of niggles as well as a tragedy.Getting the balance right is the key to balance age and experience with the more youthful . We have done it very successfully in the past, with players like Goater up top,. but we all know Phils love of his Premiership past and hankering for the older more mature player, very well described elsewhere on the zone. Its not paying off clearly. Surely we cant be last into the market again can we ?? Even though the January market tends to be more for the desperate, its increasingly looking that way for us?

The oldest 3 sides in L1 last season were: Southend (average age 28.9), Wimbledon (average age 28.3), Bradford (average age 28.0). A season on and those teams are 20th, 22nd and 24th respectively.

The youngest was Portsmouth (24.6).

That site also has a nifty graphic showing squad churn, but unfortunately it only goes up to September. At that stage of the season we had the 8th lowest churn in the division (Luton, Rochdale and Pompey were the top 3) - I'd be interested to see how much that has changed since then

Certainly WBA would not be at the right end of the division....because they are not in the division.

Nearly made the same mistake (although their relegation emphasizes the lack of success of the more elderly teams). A lot of threads from yesteryear seem to be reopened (sometimes confusingly). Perhaps a thread which is added to after a gap of more than a year can be identified with a suitable icon - perhaps a cobweb or a skeleton.

Age has nothing to do with it. ability does. Who on here wouldn't swap Dieng for McCormack for the last 6 games.
