The Spain thread

I think you're letting Barna and the EU off lightly on this one Naps. They should definitely be held responsible for the crimes of a fascist government from decades ago.

hmmm, not sure on that but maybe the crimes of the Inquisition or the Conquistadors?

If that is too much then how about the racism and violations of human rights in the Spanish North African enclaves or the clandestine blockade of Gibraltar?

At last someone with some credibility....Well done Napster. I know the rest of you have googled it as well so lets not be shy.

If the EU truly worked for the people and one of its member states had committed the biggest peace time crime in the last 50 years. Which still affected its citizens to this day, then it would have already done something years ago.

The fact that Spain (and its expat residents) wont even admit to this state and church sponsored theft of healthy children for profit and social/human gerrymandering means the EU should act, threaten expulsion or at least sanctions

It of course will never do anything because it never has had the interest of the sort of people who have their babies stolen by the state, That's why we voted out....Not because of some slogan on a big red bus.

So bizarre that one person is held responsible for everything that has ever happened in Spain just because he lives there.

I live in England so I guess I'm at fault for Thatcher, the Spice Girls, the Yorkshire Ripper and Cash In The Attic.

You are.the one wbo gave us Cash in the Attic? You monster!!!

The EU did try to make it illegal to question the Holocaust less than 15 years ago. Which I'm sure you are well aware happened before the Spanish missing babies crime and before the EU was even formed.

Britain did block the EU wide law on free speech grounds because you would not even be able to question the numbers of victims etc at each camp. Which is still argued amongst Jewish scholars today, before anyone plays the 'holocaust denier' card.

A bizarre stick with which to hit the EU (there are plenty of others of course). I really don't think they are the ones who need to be getting to the bottom of these atrocities - that is one for the Spanish state.

Have you a source for the claim about the EU trying to deny the questioning of the Holocaust? That is a new one on me but I'm intrigued to hear more.

I suggest you have a look at this link from The Torygraph:-http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/n...elona-adds-to-fears-as-tourism-protests-grow/

The perpetrators of this thoughless crime were CUP (Anti-capitalist+pro-independence) activists.

What you probably don't know is that Majorca residents habitually vote for the PP (People's Party),which is the centre-right government in Madrid and strongly against Catalan nationalism.

Why is it that when someone else posts a link like that you refuse to read it saying don't read the torygraph?

No but he lied about his reasons for not coming to the UK.Typical childish behaviour on his part.

(I''ll check out the "ninos robados " story tomorrow when I've got a bit more time.

Btw,I'm not reposonsible for everything that happens in Spain you know).:winking:

I'm not really sure that's important it is? Who cares what the reason is. Shouldn't we just celebrate the fact that he's not coming?

The Spanish state are the ones who are guilty of the crime....Conflict of Interest possibly?

Google laws against the Holocaust denial, I just checked it was 2001 when they tried the EU wide ban. I only found out recently myself doing some research as I am visiting Poland in May with a trip to Auschwitz on the agenda and haven't been before. I read about some 14 year who innocently picked up a button or something in laying in the grass and was arrested under some strict and not widely known local laws.

Your not denying the existence of the Yorkshire ripper are you....That's the difference.

By the why you cant claim the credit for Mrs Thatcher. You would have handed the Falklands to a right wing fascist dictator who abducted and tortured any of his own people who were considered left wing or socialist.
would I? Thanks for letting me know, I didn't realise that's what I would have done. I always thought I wasn't keen on right wing dictators but I'm sure you know best.

(This does remind me of the Alan Partridge sketch where he is telling a farmer played by Chris Morris that the farmer feeds swan necks to cows in a bap or something along those lines)

I guess you had to be there.

Well done by the way for supporting Maggie and the Falklands war. The last war anyone has had any moral or legal reason to support.

According to my birth certificate I was 11 at the time of the Falklands War - unless you say I was older than that - you know best.

So as an 11 year old boy I bet it made you so proud that we beat them Argies.

I certainly was as a 17 year old who played his small part in helping us to victory.........Not with a weapon but as part of the military industrial machine that profits from all wars.

What's weird is that those bemoaning corporate power voted Leave when the EU stands up to corporations/military industrial complex far more than the UK/US governments and the vote has pushed us ever closer to them.

I don't bemoan them or their corporate power in the slightest.

I just accept that's the way things are and the way things have been for decades and I carry on with my capitalistic and money orientated life, as I always have and always will. I, along with many millions have benefited from their greed and political machinations. If that brings good things to me and my immediate then that OK with me.

So long ago, it's no longer really a case of 'marking ones own homework'.

Coincidentally enough, I'm reading a history of Germany at the moment and have just got to the Holocaust. I don't hold much truck with deniers but I'll have a look later in the week.

I don't usually check out the other part of the Zone, but for a change as I'm fairly close to Spain, and have visited Barcelona on several occasion in the last few years I thought I would see what the discussion was about. it seems as usual to have been hijacked by readers of the Daily Express, you can't make it up gone from Trump canceling to the Holocaust.

Catalonia's new Parliament is due to be sworn in later today.Should be interesting.

Sorry been busy.Plus it's the Catalan derby tonight.:winking:

I just read a piece on the lost children of Francoism. Interesting. Yes, it's a Spanish issue, not an EU one. And it's complicated. Post-transitional justice is. Read the link. http://repository.cmu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1176&context=hsshonors

There you go Tangled...Napster has posted you a nice link as your so busy these days. I look forward to your knowledgeable and inside opinion as why this could happen and be covered up in Spain

It looks very detailed.I'll certainly read it when I have time. This sort of story isn't new btw, as I saw for myself when I was in Buenos Aires to visit our younger daughter 3 years ago.Saw Las Madres and a museum in tribute to Los Disparecedos. Also visited a facility where lefties were detained (very near River Plate's ground-inmates could hear the crowd in the World Cup matches in 1978).
