Another Rochdale home match called off today!

Wow. We are playing at Bury on Tuesday - so it will be interesting to see the state of their pitch.

Would Rochdale playing their games elsewhere (for instance, the Gigg Lane football ground) be an option?

New playing surface promised (for Rochdale)

Apparently their starting work on it this evening to have it ready in time for the Spurs match next weekend....God know's who's paying for it?

Not trying to read into things, but you do think this paragraph sound pre-planned......

"We have been in communication with contractors throughout the week and preparatory work had taken place prior to the scheduled Fleetwood fixture in the eventuality that the game should fall foul of the weather."

I'm no professional groundsman in charge of a League One football club, but what "Preparatory work" through the contractors could you do to the pitch prior to the Fleetwood game, knowing that it was going to get ripped up anyway and replaced come the final whistle at 5pm today?..

To me, it sounds like it was already pre -planned by the club to call of the game early (I think it was around 10am?) & get to work on it starting asap, if they could convince the referee it was un-playable. That match against Tottenham is a massive money spinner for them versus a match against Fleetwood that would only bring around 90 fans and no TV revenue.

Anyway, hopefully, "Premier Pitches" will do a good job of it this time around & it will still be playable by the time we meet them in mid March. Although Rochdale fans think not.

In which case, Mr Martin, please take note of the contractors details and be sure to make a call after the final home game of the season.

Just noticed that ex Southend players Brian Bally Murphy and Steve Collis are on the Rochdale coaching staff .

Rochdale are still yet to announce their re-arranged fixture with Fleetwood, (which of course they will at some stage, and it will be a mid week game). Meaning they will have just a single 7 day rest period between the 13th February and the end of the season in May!!. (Granted, they do have a 6 day break on just another occasion).

Either way, that's a really tough ask though for a Division One team to play twice a week from now until D-Day on the 5th of May.... Especially that they are currently bottom of the table, 11 points adrift of safety and with a worse goal difference than Fleetwood.

Yes, asking professional athletes to perform at their best for three hours a week; life can be cruel.
