Southend Homeless

I will wave to you Lordy as I normally give the runners some good encouragement on the day, I did it once myself.

Sorry won't be donating as myself and her Ladyship have tried to help these people in the past, including a 19 year old who had been kicked out by her Mother....She stole money from her Ladyships 15 year old daughters bedroom.

I could offer you 5 or 6 stories of offering rooms or work and on every occasion the people failed me. I came to conclude they only have themselves to blame as none of them had any mental health issues etc. So I admire your good intentions but I will stick to the Firefighters Charity thanks all the same because if get you horrifically burnt in a fire, or end up in a wheel chair no British government will ever help you.......For the seventh largest economy that really is a disgrace.

On a positive note I did see that recently 15 or 16 'professional beggars' have been banned from Southend as it has been proved they are certainly not homeless. More of the same please, as that means money going to those that really do need help and not to aggressive scumbags who ruin our once proud high Street.

Life is full of people that let you down when you hope they won't. The trick is to keep going in the belief that eventually you will be rewarded by those that do come through. Great effort LF, donated so don't you dare not finish.:smiles:

maybe if someone is putting the effort into raising money for a charity and you have a personal reason not to give to the charity you could keep that information to yourself? Might be the decent thing to do. The delete option exists on your post. Happy for mine to go too.

Why do you feel the need to tell the world you wont be donating? Do us all a favour and bore off.

This thread was closed for a reason, maybe it ought to be closed again

It was reopened for a worthy cause ie: Lord Football asking for donations for the half marathon he is running, not so trolls can sow us all with more bull and bilge. It shouldn't be closed but someone should banned from posting on it.

I'm not having a dig a Lordy so I won't be deleting.

The Homeless 'crisis' is like the refugee crisis. Until a few of you stand up and stop the p*** takers who masquerade in both camps at the expense of genuine cases......Then many of us won't be giving our support. I was also pointing out that every 'good cause' needs government money, so the homeless aren't neglected any more than others.

You of course know that but due to your political ideology you will deny it. Others will miss the point completely and have a personal dig at me.

Ok, lets just wind the side issues in please. This thread was closed, but as A1 says, it was re-opened purely for LF's 'HARP Charity' post. Those that want to donate, great, do so, the other stuff is done and gone. Thanks everyone.

every single situation in life where money goes from one place to another is open to abuse. All taxation is open to abuse, all charities, bank loans, football player transfers, house buying - every single monetary transaction is open to abuse. But it's common sense to accept that homelessness will have risen massively as house prices have risen at a rate that far exceeds rises in wages and benefits have been cut and there is not enough housing to go round. Some people will exploite that but it is a fact that homelessness is a worsening issue and giving to charities that support genuine cases is a no brainer.

Couldn't agree more.

By the way your wrong when you say all charities. Many are run by genuine professional people and every penny is accounted for and like the FF's charity, they can save the NHS bucket loads of money per year.

I re-opened it to make the post I made and to allow me to say thank you. I'm not going to engage in the debate. This is purely me doing something for other people who've not been dealt a decent hand in life.

But more importantly.

Thank you to Benfleet, I appreciate the comment that came with it.

Thank you to *** for your kind donation,

Thank you to RHB, he remembers my "unhealthy period" so understands the journey I've been on.

Today I ran 12 miles around Belton Way (yes, that big hill). Second furthest distance I've done. Bumped into Wardy on the way round. He is doing the London Marathon for Kids With Cancer and can be found outside the Spread on Monday on a cycling machine and a bucket. He'd be grateful if you put some spare change in his bucket.

Best of British with your run.As someone who used to work with homeless people back in the day, I have no problem whatsoever in donating a small amount to what is a worthy cause.

I'm not knocking it being opened to highlight LF's excellent cause, just maybe questioning leaving it open to further allow debate when it's not really the time or place.

It's my call that. I am hoping people will be sensible, and possibly even a bit respectful. I can always close it again if it does go tits up.

But, the important thing...

Thank you for your kind donation, and also to Rob Noxious for his.

Ticking along nicely. Come on people, dig deep, its a tad more than a couple of pints or a packet of fags. Remember, it can happen to anyone.

So here is the story.

For reasons I wont go in to, I took up running about 18 months ago. It was a bit funny to start with, but I now find myself plodding the streets of Southend. I see a lot of people bedding down for the night in Southend High Street (and on one occasion a bench in Victory Sports). It shouldn't happen in the seventh largest economy on the planet, but it does. If you take the time to talk some of them, they all have stories. One lost his job and was evicted because he couldn't pay his rent, he now can't get a job because he is no fixed abode. A young girl was thrown out by her parents and simply had nowhere else to go. A lot of the younger ones hav

HARP is the local charity that offers support, advice and seeks to get homeless people into permanent accommodation.

On 9th June I will be running (not walking) the Southend Half Marathon. I've never done one of these before, and I'd like to do it in under 2 1/4 hours - but finishing it will be an achievement. In doing so, I am hoping to raise a few quid to support HARP.

If you can spare a few pennies, please consider visiting my just giving page and, well, giving a few pennies (or a few quid).

Money goes directly to the charity.

Thanks in advance
