SOUTHEND United will today begin work on improving their problematic pitch - with the help of top turf experts.

Interestingly (or perhaps not depending on your viewpoint) the club is not saying that the current pitch is going to be replaced. Although I thought on another thread there was a posting saying that a new pitch would be laid.

I might be getting this wrong but that suggests to me that the current surface will remain in place and certain areas of the pitch will receive "treatment" as required.

When did we last re-lay the pitch completely?

Never known us to relay the pitch? We have always taken the cheaper option and reseeded it.
Must admit Rochdale's new relayed pitch looked pretty good when we went up there. But that did cost £500,000 I believe?

We are re-seeding it.

Rochdale's relaid pitch was done quickly with ready grown, imported turf.
