Blues begin work on improving pitch

In that case, perhaps we should be keeping our fingers crossed for an away fixture for our first match of the season, just to buy us an extra week of watering & August sunshine if that makes a slight difference.

Incidentally, does anyone know if we could officially request / demand an away fixture to the EFL as our first game of the season or even the first couple of games, say due to the condition of the pitch.

I wouldn't imagine it would be an issue as it wouldn't effect travelling fans as the fixture list hasn't been publicly announced. Obviously for different reasons, but I seem to recall Liverpool a few years back, being granted permission to playing their first 4 games of the season away from home due to the expansion of the Kop end.

newport requested this last year, their first home match was August 26th. The other side is asked if they are happy to change , if not the match was postponed until later in the season

That's why we played them at home in the EFL Cup or whatever it's called... they requested that the game be played "away" in the event of them getting a first round home draw.

On that basis, & with just under 2 months to go, i'm sure it will be fine come matchday.

Didn’t it look great just before start of last season? Also my grass looked like ls great ..... from a distance, not so good up close

The timing of planting was all wrong last season. Nice and early this time, so the roots will hold. It won't look great close up at the moment, but it will at the start of the season.

FFS people, why are we worried about the grass roots holding.

This is ROOTS Hall - if they can't do it here, there's no hope.
