I'm sure if an ex SUFC player did a similar pro-SUFC sign whilst playing against Colchester he would be viewed as a cult hero on here.

I go to work (pest control) and I get absolutely no abuse.

Some people are less fortunate and have to put up with some unpleasantness from time to time.

What I don't understand is why "some people" think it is "okay" or "acceptable" for any professional footballer to be abused?

It would have been better if this thread had been about criticising the morons who are being abusive rather than attacking a Southend player who has had to put up with the abuse, wouldn't it?

Hash tag: Forgoodnesssakewhereareourstandards?

Just had a phone call from Anton Ferdinand and he would like your contact details if that's OK. Apparently he has a job for you in the Dockers Stand, Zampa Road, SE16

It all reminds me of those awful days when Alvin Martin was manager. During his time here he was in the Southend High Street signing his books instead of concentrating on pulling us out of the mess we were in.

A truly dreadful time. I remember him filling the side with godawful ex Hamsters like Martin Allen and George Parrish who were long since past the days when they could make a meaningful contribution to a professional football club.

Felt like we were being turned into their feeder club, just a few years after we were competing with and beating them in the old division 2.

He was the manager!!!! at last I've found out what he was doing at Roots Hall

Tut tut Anton. I hope you feel the full force of the reprimand that oozes from this thread. I doubt you will be able to sleep at night with this weighing on your conscience. I can see from your performances that you put in poor displays because you are a hammer and you hate the Southend. Sneaky getting a job with us so you could create mayhem from within. Fancy accepting the captains armband and displacing a true blue legend in the process. Are there no depths you would sink to? You may as well leave the club now as you will never be accepted or appreciated by the fans. Its not as though you are any good as a player. Just look at the results since you have been in the side. Shameful indeed.

I'd rather see players give the WHU crossed arms sign than pose in a photo with a gun.

Unless they had been on a grouse or pheasant shoot I suppose.

I cannot imagine Wayne Rooney captaining Manchester United at Anfield, getting the abuse he expects and then turn to The Kop and give an Everton gesture. He would instead probably do the badge bit
.he would realise that despite his support of Everton - he is captain of Man Utd.

could not agree more, great analagy

Try imagining him walking of a pitch in an England shirt after yet another dreadful performance and abusing his own fans who have spent fortunes to go all the way to South Africa.

More disgusting was the number of Southend people on the train going to watch Wet Spam .....something I never want to see.Seriously hate to see people with no links or birth tie and not proud to support their local team.... in a stadium funded by us ...with Karen Brady and the Porn Bros (I love Birmingham City) running the show and affecting our support

For a second i saw this and thought it would be one of mrsblues posts as a last resort struggle to find something to moan about. We must be doing well or something :winking:

What on earth is the relevance of this to the thread? Absolutely none whatsoever

Spot on Kev. We hate west ham, we have to put up with them invading our area, cheering on their team in our pubs. They even opened a shop in our high street FFS. It's embarrassing that our captain has done this and even more embarrassing that some of our so-called fans are condoning it. Some people need to brush up on their history.

Well if you bothered to learn your history you might understand that many east enders moved to Southend and the surrounding areas in the late 1960's 1970's, in fact the East Enders moved east the north Londoners moved north to places like Cambridge and Colchester, and the west Londerners moved to places live Basingstoke and Reading. My parents now live in North Essex just outside Colchester and there are many Spurs and Arsenal fans in the area.

As a kid in the 1980s growing up in SS9 I was very very aware that West Ham were the family side, and I exercised an dual nationality as it were supporting both WHUFC and SUFC. It wasn't until the match in what 1992 when SUFC played West Ham at Roots Hall and the my loyalities were called into question.

I went into the match with divided loyalties and was'nt until Angell scored that i knew where my own loyalities lay - it was firmly with SUFC.

I now live in Yorkshire, Sheffield to be precise, but I can't ever shake SUFC from my system, I will be SUFC til I die but my no 2 side will always be WUFC. However my lad now 15 supports the Owls as he was born and raised in Sheffield, but he does have a soft spot for the teams of the old man!

The fact that a post explaining how the captain of Southend United showed his support for WHU at Millwall and the fact that it is a West Ham post "liked" by Shrimpers leaves me aghast. Add to that comments left by Southend United fans glorifying in singing "Millwall run from West Ham"...UNBELIVABLE.
For years we have had to put up with comments about being plastic Hammers and then - at Millwall of all places - we humiliate our support by proving the bloody point!

And why wouldnt he show his support for WHUFC, he's a former player and its well known that he is a fan, and will always be.

I now live in yorkshire, are you suggesting I give up SUFC?

If I had ever played for say Gillingham and the Colchester fans had been giving me gyp, I'd have been pretty certain to make my loyalties to SUFC known to them - if only to wind then up!

Don't see why this is such a big deal. In case you didn't realise, the Millwall fans were giving Ferdinand abuse for the whole game.

He had the right to retaliate and that was his way of doing it.

!

And The South East Londoners moved To North Kent, when they were in the top tier Charlton even spoke about putting coaches on from Gillingham for home fans...
I wouldn't be surprised if the bulk of the Millwall fans last Saturday came from outside of Bermondsey.

Yes same principle of moving out of London to the wider suburbs which sadly many places have become.

In Liverpool it is not uncommon for people to adopt Tranmere as a sort of second team, I'm sure it infuriates the genuine hard core of Tranmere fans but there you go.

The way the world is now with wider opportunities to travel etc and people moving all over the place this is perhaps not as likely as in the past. I'm personally not a fan of those half and half scarves but the premier league matches seem full of tourist fans.

I think we also have to factor in Hitler and the Luftwaffe here.

I am of course referring to the bombing of London during the second world war that saw many families leaving the east end of London for safety outside the capital and then because they had no house left - poor sods.

I can't blame them for continuing to support their "local" team after what they've been through.
