First vague memories are peering over wall at front of east stand watching Roberts, Bentley, Birks, Slack, May, Beanland, Woodley, Firmani, Mckinvan etc , then the great battles with Watford a few years later who had the 8ft beanpole Ross Jenkins and Luther Blissett in their prime. !! Anyway this looks like it could be a good season for a change !!!

Welcome to SZ.
Were crowds in those days regularly over 15,000?I think not.I remember all the players you mention.I didn't watch from the Paddock though,I always preferred the West Stand in those days and I'd 've thought 10,000+ would be a bit nearer the mark for a typical attendance.

Off the top of my head i would say that between 1968-72, we had crowds over 15,000 about 4-5 times. 1973 onwards the only time i can recall a 'big' crowd for a league game, was when Malcolm Allisons Crystal Palace came to town in 1974 and the crowd was 17,000 plus.

Remember seeing Watford with Elton in tow many times early 70s, both here and at Vicarage Lane

If Roots Hall still had the capacity, how many times do you think we could have had more than 15,000 in recent years?

Yeovil in 2005, Bristol City 2006, Man United 2006 & Chelsea 2009 would all have been over 15,000 and possibly some of our games in the Championship season Norwich, Ipswich & Leeds as we would have given the away fans much more tickets.
