Yes it's true.I read in my print copy of The Guardian International today(while having a beer and later a G and T) outside and over the road from the Bikini before the first concert in Barcelona's International Jazz Festival that the last print copy of The Guardian International will be this Friday September 30th.Sad news indeed.Thank God for the net.

Thats great news Barna. Presumably it's demise is due to falling demand, so as only sad old gits buy it, there must be fewer sad old gits around. Rock on!

Yes and no.The stated reason was the success of the online edition.Since I live out in the sticks I can only get hold of a print copy when I journey into town, though when I first moved out to SC(in the mid-80's) the Med.edition was easy to get here.

"And I will go on criticising Socialism, and opposing Socialism because it is bad for Britain — and Britain and Socialism are not the same thing. (...) It’s the Labour Government that have brought us record peace-time taxation. They’ve got the usual Socialist disease — they’ve run out of other people’s money". (Margaret Thatcher)

Talking of Thatcher quotations here's one for you:-"Any man who finds himself on a bus over the age of 30 can consider himself a failure in life".
Wonder what Canvey Shrimper makes of that one?

Did she always drink and drive when she went to the boozer?!

Imagine a Labour canvasser talking on the doorstep to those East German families when they settle in on freedom’s side of the wall. “You want to keep more of the money you earn? I’m afraid that’s very selfish. We shall want to tax that away. You want to own shares in your firm? We can’t have that. The state has to own your firm. You want to choose where to send your children to school? That’s very divisive. You’ll send your child where we tell you.”

"There is no solid evidence that Margaret Thatcher ever quoted this statement with approval, or indeed shared the sentiment" (Wikipedia)

Do keep up.

I too thought that (ridiculous) comment had come from Margaret Thatcher. However, something I read in (of all places!) The Guardian the other day suggested it was someone else:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/sep/18/world-cup-rugby-2011-martin-johnson

I'd read that rugby article in The Guardian too but hey when the legend becomes fact, print the legend.
Meanwhile here's something Mrs T did say:-"there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families."
Tell me if there's "no such thing as society"why do we bother paying taxes?

Couldn't agree more. Those public sector nob-munchers in standard class on the trains, clutching their Guardian, aren't much better either. Thankfully I don't have to sit near them.

She probably got a cab like most people? If it's more of a session for her, I'm sure she could stretch to the fifty quid for a driver for the night.

The Sun and The Daily Mail will still be readily available I'm sure

You travel first class I take it?
The FCG(overground light railway service)between SC and Barcelona used to offer second class and third class tickets(no first class- a very Spanish compromise).I always used to get a second class season ticket.Sadly it's now a classless, one price service.

as a non nob munching public sector worker let us hope you don't get ill and need a hospital, don't set your house on fire and need a fire engine, don't breed so you have no need of the education system, don't get robbbed and need a policeman - the list is endless.

meanwhile i'm a bit confused by your comments as you seem to think i'm a nob muncher for working for the public sector but are quite happy for the private sector to shaft me if i worked in it.

keep sending the kids up chimneys and down mines. i thought neandethals had all died out, seems some survived to evolve into d i c k heads
