Ayrshire Blue
The Custard Splat
Isn't José Veiga on The Chase?

Didn't he drive the morning after? He may have not realised he was drunk, and obviously didn't intend to kill anyone. He also handed himself in from what I remember, it's not like he ran away. Lee Hughes is a far worse person than Luke. I'd put criminals who deliberately aimed to harm other people as more scum like than Luke McCormick. I'm sure I'm in the minorty but what's the point in a justice system if people aren't allowed to get on with their lives once their sentence is over? How anyone would want a child killer as their new keeper is beyond me !!!!!!
He should have no place in a family sport after he destroyed a family. McCormick = SCUM

I never said I wanted to sign him, playing someone who will get constant abuse in goal is a massive gamble. I'm saying he should be allowed to get on with his life. I'll accept that the 'morning after' may be an exaggeration, however if you wake up and you're drunk it isn't too hard to convince yourself that your not drunk. he was also only twice over the limit, which equates to something like 3 drinks (I think,) so its possible he didn't feel drunk even if he was. He was very stupid to have not considered when he would need to drive the next morning, but I can guarantee that thousands of people have done similar things, the only difference is that they were lucky enough not to crash, but from a purely logical point of view they should be given the same sentence as luke, after all the intent was the same. As for the telephone plea, we have no way of knowing how persuasive the friend was, he could have just said 'maybe you should pull over,' and when Luke said no, he may have just left it at that. From the Court Case.
''He was seen drinking beer and downing shots of sambuca before leaving the reception at 0200 BST. He got two hours sleep before getting up and leaving for Coventry. The court heard he ignored a telephone plea from his room-mate to stop driving and pull over at services''
I think the collision happened at 5.45am, so not actually the morning after. The blokes a tosser, and I reckon the club would lose the respect of numerous fans if they signed him. Pleanty of good keepers out there, why would you want to sign a knob like Mccormick?

Decent piece in the Guardian today about the whole McCormick debate.

It seems to me that the killer was lack of sleep rather than alcohol. He was stupid and irresponsible but deserves the right to rebuild his life, IMO.
Nothing will bring those poor children back. This is a very emotive topic and one that is bound to raise strong feelings and extreme opinions. I have often talked about role models in football and the need to toughen up to teach our children a lesson but not everything is black and white. If he is truly remorseful then I am sure he is in turmoil. For me, as long as he can now lead by example and get across the message of how terrible his actions were, then I have to err on the side of 'deserves another chance'. I would also like to see it as compulsory that such offenders have to pay a percentage of earnings to related charities. Let some good come out of an awful tragedy. if he were to drink and drive again then separate him from his nadgers!Decent piece in the Guardian today about the whole McCormick debate.

Over the limit still at 5am + lack of sleep + driving at 100mph. One defence people raise is how many people have driven after a night out, I certainly have, but not at 5am and certainly not at 100mph.
He can rebuild his life, he doesnt need to be a professional footballer though and can do it in other ways. Get into coaching school kids / underprivileged kids etc.
For me a professional footballer is a privileged role and one that puts the player in a position to be idolised. He made a mistake and served his time but Ill never accept a player like him in the team.
