Tax and Spend not working

Maybe Hollande can get away with blaming Sarko's Government. That seems to have worked quite well for the Tory led coalition in the UK.

Maybe you should finally admit that Socialism has always been tax and spend and that you are so blinkered and bigoted in your views that you are starting to embarrass yourself.

I'll be in France at the weekend so I'll have a chance to ask the locals what they think.:winking:

(P.s. When do you think UKIP will win their first ever Parliamentary seat)?

The French employment minister admits that France is a totally bankrupt state and tax and spend is not working.

Maybe socialism doesn't work.

Do we need another 'socialist experiment' to prove the blindingly obvious? The piles of corpses in China and the Soviet Union would attest that socialism doesn't work, as would the gentleman from Barnaby's avatar, who would no doubt refer to his groupie as a member of the 'pansy left'.

If the polls are to believed (which at the risk of sounding like a MP at election time, I don't) maybe UKIP could sneak one or two at the expense of the LibDems or even a marginal from the Tories. I know you are trying to be sarcastic and I'm probably setting myself up for a fall but the next election is going to be their very best chance.

I'm happy to bet you that UKIP won't win a single parliamentary by-election before the 2015 GE,nor a single seat at the 2015 GE.Tenner to SZ.Loser pays.Interested?

George Orwell was of course a card-carrying member of the I.L.P. until his untimely death. He also fought in Spain against right-wing fascism.
You do his memory a great disservice to imply that he would have had more time for your half crazied,neo-republican bile than my own left-of centre views.Try reading a bit more of his work than just Animal Farm and 1984.

So he was just having a bit of a laugh when he wrote the two works you reference? Neither book seems particularly comedic to me. And what, pray tell, does 'half crazied' mean? I'm sure Mr Blair would have dismissed you as a member of the 'pansy left' as mentioned earlier, and would have enjoyed my joie de vivre far more than your entrenched bitterness and leftism by numbers.

The point I was making was you really need to take the whole corpus of Orwell's work into account to get a balanced picture of his political views rather than just his last two books (which is a mistake that many Americans tend to make make).

And what, pray tell, does 'half crazied' mean?

Look it up in the dictionary. It means deranged.

As I'm sure you're aware, the "pansy left" was an unfortunate phrase Orwell occasionally used in his essays-especially in The Lion and The Unicorn- to describe strands of left-wing opinion that he disagreed with.
Blair in my opinion is the worst thing that's happened to the modern Labour party in recent times.Since he's an ex-lawyer in thrall to the money-god,I'm sure-as you suggest- he would enjoy the company of an accountant, such as yourself, much more than that of a socialist like me.

You've really outdone yourself this time. Eric Blair you halfwit!

I'll except your bet and will gladly pay a tenner to SZ if I lose. Could we also add a clause that if UKIP do win a seat you will stop posting Guardian links and have a valid opinion of your own rather than fishing and **** stirring.

Bet's on.
Sorry I'll have to pass on your links clause though.:smiles:

This thread is (i) an attempt to state that socialism doesn't work (ii) a means to have a pop at Barnablue

Whilst criticising of socialism is akin to shooting fish in a barrel I don't think that the last five years suggest that liberal capitalism is a particularly efficient system either. People who obsess about left vs right and state vs private sector are dinosaurs. The world has moved on. The only reason that the western world didn't fall into oblivion was due to unprecedented levels of state intervention.

I've never understood the tribalism some people have towards politics and economics. 'What works' is important not what fits into the narrow ideological boundaries of the small minded and half witted.

Well said - completely agree

Hmm, you could be right there. :winking:

Probably also correct.

Absolutely bang on the money.

Which was the point of the original point post in the first place. As Barna always seems to post about anything capitalist not working, i just thought it was fair to balance up the argument slightly. Though it was quite interesting to read that the French employment minister is stating that his own country is bankrupt.

As i said on a previous thread why parties cannot just go along with policies they agree with rather than trying to score points off each other, i will never know. It's like they are only thinking of themselves and not the greater good of the country....oh.
