What a result for the blue army. Wasn't expecting this. This is for the good of England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. Socialism cannot and will not be tolerated under our watch. People deserve opportunity, choice about key decisions, and strong leadership. Labour couldn't deliver and the voters agreed. A rare occasion where I'm proud of my fellow countrymen.

Today I am more proud of my "Old BLUE Lady" sobriquet than ever. Well done the UK!

I think the Tories deserve credit for getting more votes than the rest, but I do wonder if they won it by default through the absence of a credible leadership of the other parties. Only time will tell I guess. It feels like 'better the devil you know' to me.

Putting the hyperbole to one side - the good of the UK? The Tories and the right wing press have been claiming that the SNP have no legitimacy in UK politics and they are now the lone voice in Scotland and the majority of Scottish voters are alienated. Far from the good of the UK, they have put the good of the party to the fire at the expense of the UK. Why did they even campaign for a 'no' vote - pointless.

Ed Balls, Danny Alexander & gorgeous George Galloway all losing their seats has really cheered me up today. It's the icing on the cake!

That odious creature has also been reported to the police. I doubt anything will come of it, but it's still funny.

I think you are being quite selective in this.

Labour completely under estimated the wealth of feeling in England that a Party wishing to break up the UK would be able to form a government, even you as an activist couldn't grasp this in the many discussions had here on SZ.

They also don't seem to get that in Scotland that the voters feel disenfranchised with Westminster, seeing as Labour have had the most MP's in Scotland it's hardly fair to blame this all on the Tories!

Unfortunately for the Scots, yes they are in Westminster....but it's pretty unclear whether this will do them any good.

Time to hang up your leftist ways and spend more time with the family?

What I don't get is why they didn't vote for independence if feelings were so strong.

So you don't think the massive fear campaign run by the Tories & Tory press fueling anti-Scottish sentiment, in turn fuelled nationalism in Scotland?

The Tories actually held their only Scottish seat so not quite sure that is correct. As others have stated the fear of the SNP having a say within a Labour government was seriously understated by the party and its activists. Bear in mind that the electorate in England makes up over 3/4 of the UK's total voting public, ignoring their voices will only lead to defeat.

It may well have done, but why didn't they take their frustrations out at the time?
