I'm surprised you suggest developers wouldn't be interested, as Upton Park was sold to Galliard Homes, who I believe specialise in affordable housing. Perhaps it's trying to get planning for residential on RH and FF, that is the issue here ?

No understanding of the situation but the one obvious factor is West Ham dont need the money to build their new stadium so dont have to make the most money possible.

Time for a long banner to be show right across the West Stand with the words "what's the latest, Ron ?", me thinks

We all know RM will not openly admit yet another failure to deliver a new stadium until he has to if this news is true.

OR perhaps a little chant of, 'Martin, Martin what's the score; Martin, what's the score"

It will no doubt fall on deaf ears.

No developer specialises in affordable housing - they specialise in identifying and acquring sites and maximising profits upon delivery. Galliard may have a penchant for obtaining less desirable sites for a lower outlay, but they will still be looking to offset affordable housing targets against Section 106 contributions.

More likely to be a condition of the deal which saw West Ham move to a World Class facility for what is a peppercorn rent.
Newham Council scratching their backs to help meet their own planning targets.

So like I say Southend council could do the same.

Noticed on the new Commercial website, that BL are still listed as being involved. With the website being so new I would very much doubt that they would have been included if they weren't still involved.

The council have said RH cannot be developed until we have anew stadium and football is being played at FF.

If it was just about greed, then for Ron (or the next chairman) the simple answer would be to let the club go bust and they would be left with a large development site. But because of the councils planning restriction they would be left with a worthless, other than football, piece of land......So we are protected.

I remember a TV one off where Mel Smith played the part of a saviour for a struggling lower league team....or so the fans thought. He then bankrupt the club and sold the ground.

I'm afraid that is not quite right. I emailed Southend Council 18 months ago. If Southend United cease to exist then it is likely that restrictions in place regarding development of Roots Hall would be reviewed.

Not disputing what you have been told. I did speak to Ron Woodley about 7 months ago and he told me they would not allow development on the RH site unless SUFC are playing at another place. However councils like chairman do change, so who knows in 10 years time.

So lets say the worst happened and we went bust with no new stadium. Like others have done we could reform in the lower leagues and perhaps owned by the supporters. If a creditor now owned RH or even sold it on. The council could review the restrictions and say no development at RH you can only play football on the site. Supporters trust buy the land back.

My concern with this is resource. That is a valuable piece of land and I'm certain the Trust don't have that kind of money and it would take a gargantuan effort to raise. A lot of local businesses would not want to help or be involved with the club, they've had their fingers burnt in the past. Whoever the council is at the time, we'd need a lot of help from them.

That depends on who knows what. If they only person that knows what's going on is RM, then the people involved in the website would be none-the-wiser.
