Blues boss Brown: I don't think the team are playing for me

That to me sounds like someone who has given up. He says the only way to fix things is a change of personnel. So unless he decides to bring in 3/4/5 loanees then the only change of personnel i see happening is himself.

That's twice (that i know of) that he's blasted the team to that degree on radio this season and these things only ever have 2 effects.

1 - the players feel motivated and pull their finger out
2 - the players disrespect the manager even more and performances are worse than if the manager had said nothing

Unfortunately i think we all know which has happened here.

Whats behind the 'messed the northern players about' posts anyway?

I've listened to that interview twice now.

PB is a bit of a drama queen, but that's some serious self-indulgence and no error.

Almost sounds like, after Wednesday, Ron has set some sort of ultimatum and he's passed it on to the players and they've responded like that.

I've heard more upbeat interviews from managers who have just been sacked!

Don't think I've ever heard an interview like that from any manager, tbh I never listen to PB's interviews (but pick up the gist on here of course) but that is really not good not matter what way you look at it, time for Mr Martin to make a decision methnks!

He lost the dressing room a long time ago. A couple of things have happened, including messing the northern based lads about at away games up north. They players don't respect him and I can't see him being here much longer now

Though PBs time may well be up, there is no excuse for the players putting in a performance like that, whether they dislike PB or not. They are getting paid and should be putting in the effort for the fans.

There is no excuse for lack of effort

There is a fair few of the players that need to go as well, just not good enough

Two more things that came out of BBC essex radio tonight that I found interesting. Michael Timlin says the players are behind Phil Brown, and that he does a lot of good stuff the fans don't get to see. The other was the Colchester commentator with the horrible voice, asked Sammie Szmodics why him especially, and the forwards are scoring more this season. He said it's all down to hard work as they have been staying for hours after training, practising shooting, and it's paid off. He says he now thinks he can score every shot, whereas before he had no confidence in his shooting ability.

If PB genuinely does feel like that, then the decent thing to do would be to offer his resignation. If he thinks he's taken the team as far as he can, his work is done.

We are in a better place than we were when he joined. If he goes now, it'll be with my blessing and thanks. If things don't improve and he stays, then he will undo all the good work that has gone on.

Yep, spot on.

I think it's hard, as a manager, to come back from such a poor post-match interview and convince people your heart really is still in the job.

He just sounds, of late, like someone who would rather be doing something else. Even moreso than on previous occasions.

I'm neither Brown in or out, I just want my to enjoy watching my team play. So whatever is needed to get this team playing like we believe it should.

If he was to hand in his resignation it might even help him get another job... If he waits until Ron makes the decision for him he's another sacked manager.

What's Tilly up to these days?

We see him from time to time, he's head of the PE Faculty (or whatever it's called) at SEEVic.

Spot on, I don't think Ron would want players at the club who are deliberately under performing for whatever reason. Why would you ?

What happens if we get a new manager and the same little click of players decide they don't like him either ? Sorry but they have to go, no matter who they are.

Blimey, he's got a real job. Well out of this football manager nonsense.

Not quite - he also manages C&K Basildon Ladies who I believe play in the FA Womens Premier League.
What a story that would be - guide us to the play-offs in an interim role in a similar manner to the way Webby stepped in for a few games culminating in that crazy FA Cup win over Canvey at Park Lane.

That was a rhetorical question but thanks for answering nonetheless. I wonder if he studied for a degree, which would be standard in education or if they took his coaching badges and career as qualification.

any decent manager in any profession goes good stuff that others dont see,

the shooting bit was very interesting based on your reports from the training ground

About time he realised. He's created a divide between the high earning underperforming big boys and the rest. Any respect I had went when he continued to pick Anton over White after the Oxford game :nope:.

Edit- alhough I'm not happy with Brown, the players should be ashamed of themselves. Downing tools as soon as they go one down, not good enough. Only Oxley and Leonard look like they give a **** right now, and Lenny wants a move! Lenny puts the rest of our wasters to shame.

As you know 'seventies' this is a bugbear of mine.

Shooting and set-piece taking practice should be a compulsory add-on after training is scheduled to finish, until a player can get it right 9/10.

I mentioned once before that Ian Wright, in his autobiography, mentions about how he used to spend hours practicing shooting into certain parts of a goal. Time after time. Right and Left foot, until he perfected it. Often picking a spot in the goal net that he aimed to hit each time.

Like a cricketer in the nets or a snooker player on a practice table, you can never have too much practice at perfecting your skills.
