If Phil Brown does leave Southend United today (and I won’t deny I’m desperately hoping this will happen), can I just recognise that this will be a day of huge disappointment for him personally. I’m sure he’s done his best and I certainly wish him all the best for the future.

hear hear. And to that note for a large chunk of is time here had done a very good job, this season seems to have been a stretch too far and time for a new man to have a go.

If this is true then it's strange timing, why not a week ago? Bit worried that any new manager will have trouble assessing the squad then identifying and signing any transfer targets when we're already over half way through the month.

Regardless, thanks for the promotion and the good times PB. The club probably does need a fresh change now though.

This afternoon's meeting in full :-

PB : Can I have £250,000 to buy a couple of players I need?
RM : No
PB : Well, this position is now untenable
RM : Yes, good point. Shut the door when you leave

I really need Ron to get on with this sacking - I've got a conference to prepare for this evening, and I'm basically just sitting here in a pool of sweat pressing refresh on Twitter....

I'm a bit apprehensive of Powell as manager. Loved him as a player but he hasn't been that impressive as a manager elsewhere, would hate for him to come here and sour his memory.

Maybe so, but he was pretty bullish whilst publicly courting the Sunderland and Bolton jobs, all the while under contract to Southend United...I'll not lose any sleep over his sacking.

This.

I'm thankful for Brown in getting us out of the basement and he has delivered some good moments for the club. That said, his conduct has at times left a bit to be desired and I personally don't think he's handled himself as well as the previous two incumbents. When Tilson was the subject of strong interest from Norwich for example he wasn't on the radio the next day hitching his skirt up.

If time is up, and it looks like being the case, then it's about time. No particular ill feeling towards Brown but even he'd be hard pressed to deny that it's the correct decision, probably for both parties.

I have a suspicion that some of the targets we are missing out on may have had a certain someone to put them off signing.

Strange turn around in Rons thinking and short timescale too, which leads me to believe this.

The championship is on the horizon after a late charge from Adam Barrett and Steve Tilson at the helm.

we're on our wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Phil Brown has always seemed to be more invested in Phil Brown the brand rather than SUFC. Whenever I've heard him in the morning on Talksport I've always thought why is he doing that? Thanks for the promotion, just seems to have lost his way over last season.

LOL, we're getting in early on how we feel about Powelly as manager.

We haven't even sacked the previous one yet!

The whole club, fans, team need a lift to get us out of this rut.

I would love a management team who know the club and would quickly get the fans onside and the players giving 100%.

Powell and Tilly would do for me.

Would not be at all surprised, as I intimated yesterday, that Graham Coughlan gets the sack as assistant and PB remains in charge following the talks - with a new assistant bought in

On Chris Powell as manager.
Mixed feelings.
Firstly my favourite player of all time (well my 30 odd years supporting)
Secondly got promotion with Charlton as manager. But not much else.
Certainly a figure that commands respect though...england caps and all that. And generally a top fella....southend legend.
Interesting times ahead .
