Loanee Watch 2021-22

Three more Shrimpers out on loan
6 goal Eren Kinali and Miles Mitchell-Nelson go to Brightlingsea in the Isthmian Premier.

Jon Benton goes to East Thurrock in the same division.

It will be interesting to see if the likes of Cameron Brown, Harry Seaden, O’Shane Stewart and Oli Coker join them in the next few weeks. Maybe even Lewis Gard as he doesn’t seem like getting a first team chance.

For those after a bit of non-league action today

Isthmian League
Jon Benton’s East Thurrock are away at Haringey Borough.

Reiss Chandler, Jimmy Wallace and Bobby Unwin at Bishops Stortford are at home to Leatherhead

Eren Kinali and Miles Mitchell-Nelson are away at Cray Wanderers.

Ergis Shala and Demaray Anyadike’s Harlow aren’t in action in the Southern League Central.

Brightlingsea won 2-0 despite having a player sent off after only 8 minutes. Kinali played 69 minutes while Mitchell-Nelson played the whole match.

Brightlingsea had 7 points from their first 7 games and that result against 18th placed Cray Wanderers lifts them to 12th in the table.

Reiss Chandler started and Jimmy Wallace was a tenth minute sub as Bishop’s Stortford scraped past bottom of the table Leatherwood 7(seven) - 0. Bishop’s Stortford are 9th, 3 points off the play-offs.

Jon Benton made his debut for East Thurrock. At half-time they were winning 1-0 but Ricky Otto’s former side hit 5 second half goals, a result that leaves East Thurrock in 19th.

Bishop’s Stortford are in action again Tuesday at home to Enfield; East Thurrock at Margate; Brightlingsea at Cheshunt.

Or not as Bishop’s Stortford and East Thurrock’s games were called off due to the fuel crisis.

Kinali and Mitchell-Nelson both started though for Brightlingsea who went 1 up. Cheshunt then had a man sent off after 38 minutes only to equalise 6 minutes later and then add two second half goals as the 10men triumphed. Kinali played 76 minutes.

Anyadike got the start (no Shala) for Harlow at Ware. It was a bad start for Harlow though as they went 1-0 down in the first minute. Two second half goals however saw Anyadike’s side triumph.

Chris Phillips is reporting two former managers (and players, for that matter) are taking our young midfielders on loan.

Lewis Gard is headed to Tilly at Heybridge whilst O’Shane Stewart is heading to Spud’s Welling. Both have been recently appointed.

Welling are a division below us in the Conf South whilst Heybridge are Isthmian North, three levels below us.

Would have thought that would be the other way round. Good to see Gard getting first team football after suffering a horrible injury, but surely he is too good for that level.

Surprised to see Stewart go out to the NL South, not that I've seen him play but we usually send them on their first loan to lower levels (Harlow etc.). Let's hope he gets good game time and doesn't just sit on the bench.

O’Shane Stewart spent time in loan in the Isthmian League Premier Division in 2019/20 with Margate and Merstham, so this is a natural progression for him.

I think this is potentially a real good loan move for him; he played well during pre-season and was involved in the first-team squad in January. Both Mark Molesley and Phil Brown have remarked how impressed they’ve been by him, so it’s a real opportunity to do well in a senior environment at the level below where we at the moment.

I would say the Lewis Gard situation is just about getting him regular football after a long time out. If he does well at Heybridge and importantly remains injury-free, we might then try to find him a National League South side (or get him involved in our own midfield).

Didn't realise that, thanks for the information. I remembered that he was a regular for the u23 last season and didn't go out on loan then.

Great to see him progressing and hope both will be in the first team near the end of the season.

No O’Shane Stewart for Spud’s Welling. He may get some opportunities soon as they lost 3-0.

Lewis Gard made his debut for Tilly’s Heybridge Swifts at home to Canvey. Second against third from bottom went as you’d expect with Tilly’s side falling to a 4-1 defeat but up until 78 minutes it was one a piece.

Miles Mitchell-Nelson and Eren Kinali got the nod for Brightlingsea at home to Bognor Regis. It didn’t go very well. Bognor banged in five to go fifth.

Demaray Anyadike started for Harlow at home to St Neots in the Southern League Division 1 Central. Harlow played the last 10 minutes with 10 men after their sub was sent off for two bookings but held on for a 1-1 draw.

Jon Benton started for East Thurrock in the FA Cup away as Boston United. He was subbed after 82 minutes with East Thurrock 3-0 down. Their higher division opponents later grabbed a fourth and final goal.

Miles Mitchell-Nelson and Eren Kinali were in action last night as Isthmian Premier Brightlingsea, fielding several trialists, faced top of the Isthmian North Grays in a friendly. Grays edged it 2-1.

In the National South O’Shane Stewart got the start at Chippenham for Spud’s Welling. It worked as Welling picked up their first win of the season with a fine 3-1 win away at their hosts who fall to 12th in the National South.

Jon Benton scored for East Thurrock in their thrilling last minute 4-3 win at home to Hornchurch. The Blues’ youngster won the ball 30 yards out, drove forward and drove the ball past the Urchins’ custodian. Hornchurch drop to 9th, East Thurrock up to 17th in the Isthmian Prem.

One place above them is Brightlingsea Regent, featuring Eren Kinali and Miles Mitchell-Nelson they crashed to a 5-1 defeat at 4th placed Folkestone Invicta.

Harlow, Biships Stortford and Heybridge Swifts were involved in the FA Trophy.

O’Shane Stewart made the team of the week for the National South - the division below us:Look:

In tonight’s action Jon Benton was back for East Thurrock in the Isthmian Premier after his goal at the weekend. East Thurrock fell behind to an early goal from Kazaiah Sterling (remember him?)who is now plying his trade at Potters Bar. Potters Bar grabbed another couple of goals in the second half to run out 3-0 winners. They are in 9th and East Thurrock down in 17th.

Elsewhere in the Isthmian Premier Reiss Chandler started for Bishops Stortford and Jimmy Wallace was on the bench for their clash at home to Haringey Borough. They fell behind to a 72nd minute goal but equalised 10 minutes later. Jimmy Wallace didn’t come on. Haringey Borough are the spot above Potters Bar with Bishops Stortford a couple of places below that.

Lewis Gard and his magic feet lined up for Tilly’s Heybridge Swifts against Felixstowe. The Swifts were 1 up at the break but Felixstowe fought back with two goals in two minutes with around a quarter of an hour left. That looked like being enough, particularly when they had a man sent off but ex-SUFC youth Dan Walker came on in the 87th minute and scored twice in injury ti to give Tilly’s men the win. Heybridge move up to 17th, their hosts drop to 11th in the Isthmian North.

Stewart looks like he’s got a decent future. Seems to be very highly rated and has looked useful whenever I’ve seen him.

O’Shane Stewart got the start for Spud in the Conf South for Welling. They beat Braintree 1-0 for back to back wins for the first time this season.

In the Isthmian Premier Eren Kinali and Miles Mitchell-Nelson both played for Brightlingsea in their 3-1 defeat at home to Wingate and Finchley. Miles Mitchell-Nelson was subbed after 54 minutes. Eren Kinali scored Brightlingsea’s last minute consolation goal.

Jon Benton got the start for East Thurrock at Carshalton. He was subbed after 77 minutes with the Rocks 3-1 down. Carshalton later added a 4th.

Jimmy Wallace and Reiss Chandler were on the bench for Bishop’s Stortford against the Libertines’ sponsored Margate. They weren’t needed as Bishop’s Stortford pulled off a 1-0 home win.

Dropping down to Chertsey’s level Demaray Anyadike was on the bench for Harlow at Kempston Rovers. He wasn’t needed in a 6-0 Harlow win. No Ergis Shala.

Lewis Gard’s Heybridge are in action tomorrow v Hashtag Utd.

East Thurrock dropped (rested?) Jon Benton tonight in their 2-1 defeat to Bishops’ Stortford. He was an unused sub. No Unwin, Chandler or Wallace for Stortford in the squad. I wonder if we’ll see a number of the loanees return to Roots Hall to see if they can get in the new manager’s plans. It’s also worth pointing out that several or these deals were for an initial month anyway.
