Chertsey Town arrive in Southend on Saturday exactly 10 years and 15 days after their previous visit. Last time they were at Southchurch Park where they faced Southend Manor in a 2nd qualifying round FA Cup tie. A crowd of 168 saw a 4-2 home victory earning Manor a tie against all-time leading FA Cup scorers, Kettering Town, in the next round.
The referee for Saturday is one level below our usual National League officials and can normally be found refereeing in the National League South. It will be Callum Walchester from Lowestoft, a police officer in his late twenties.
He will know his way to Roots Hall having run the line on 6 occasions and acted as Fourth Official on his most recent visit for the goalless home match with Tranmere in January 2020.
He has already refereed matches this season at Billericay, Concord, Braintree and Chelmsford; not a single home win amongst them !
Assistants are Stephen Parkinson from Watford, a former German teacher now working in health and wellbeing, and a Thomas Kelly. There appears to be two of them; one from Cambridge the other from Oxford!
Fourth Official is Jack Bloxham from Harpenden.
