Latest Rumours Southend United boss Kevin Maher on his pursuit of new signings - and other 2022 rumours or inside info

Right back who can also play on the wing. Decent crosser. Possibly a bit lightweight but tall enough.

I was merely going on the comments from Stan ie that we would be able to attract players otherwise out of reach.

This has yet to happen.
Stan probably can attract players. Unfortunately we remain totally skint and with a bloated squad. That's not going to change any time soon.

The wholesale and impressive changes will have to wait for the summer, when we can clear out some of the higher earners. In the meantime, we need to make sure we are good enough to stay in this division.

Remember, Stan doesn't decide who gets signed and who doesn't, he just puts people in front of Kev.

YB is totally correct, this is a signing based on the view he will improve with us and be an asset going forward. His peak is still 5-6 years away and his profile fits into the new transfer strategy nicely. He's leaving a League One club to join us.

Do Cambridge have enough fans to have a forum? Wouldn't mind seeing what they make of him.

This looks like it has the potential to be a very smart signing.
Those in charge must believe they can improve him.
If they can do that he should be an asset.

Has been watched by our guys, one of them saw his debut for Weymouth, where he picked up an assist.

He was in the building talking to Kev & co tail end of last week.

Right back, who is equally comfortable playing wing back, so offers us flexibility. Has an excellent delivery too.

Was an option around our embargo too, and will be a permanent deal, not a loan as now a free agent.

Ticks a lot of boxes.

If true, it's nice to see us looking at young players with their future ahead of them. As for their quality... none of us really know and it's pointless to speculate. I trust that the team know a lot better than I do as they've been scouting him! Some of the best signings are the ones you don't expect.

"He'll be better as Right Wing/Midfield or wing back. Defensively adequate but was probably the best crosser of the ball at the club and he usually got a cross in without needing to beat his man. Hope he's fully recovered from his injury and kicks on to a steady career at NL/L2 level."

one quote I have seen from a Cambridge fan......

They were interested in the 18 year old Ashby at West Ham but he has since played in the 1st team against Spurs in the carabao cup.
Also why don’t they recall Jon Benton back from Aveley… banging in the goals and creates a lot of goals.
Aveley are from exactly the same level as Chertsey. Benton is obviously doing well but it is a big jump to National League. He will gain far more by playing games every week in a winning side. Leave him be for the moment and see what next season brings.
