So it's the last game of the season and a bucket and spade derby with neither team having anything to play for except bragging rights on the day.

Whilst the blues had their feet up, the Gulls saw off play-off hunting but faltering Chesterfield at Plainmoor and then endured a long trip up to Stockport on Wednesday where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 and also lost their first choice goalkeeper Shaun MacDonald to injury at the end of the first half.

Blues should therefore be fresher than their Devon-based opponents, but if the long break after the penultimate game has resulted in our players mentally checking in for their summer holiday then 10th placed Torquay could easily capitalise.

Gary Johnson's men have only 1 win in their last six games, but to only lose 1-0 at promotion chasing Stockport is no mean feat.

It will be interesting to see what kind of team Kev and Co. put out for this one. Will he risk any of those returning from injury, like Nathan Ralph and Tom Clifford? Will he allow those faithful servants who will be leaving at the end of the season one last game in what is a dead rubber?

It's your last chance this season to suggest the team you think he should pick and what you predict the result will be.

Be interesting to see whos involved, more so who isn't.

A good few players won't be seen again in a blue shirt.

No idea how many will turn up. I doubt many from Torquay.

Glad they are still in this division next season as its a cracking away weekend.

Let's end the season with a good game and 3 points and finish top 12

The last league game of the season and, at last, we have stopped the rot that has infected us for seasons. There may be nothing riding on this one but pride, but I really hope we go out there and rip them up.

A quick word on the Southend support this season, it has been absolutely superb, both home and away. For the home games, I'd be grateful if the Blue Voice could improve their diction a little bit as Mrs RHB still doesn't understand what they are singing about (thinking about it a bit more, maybe that's not a bad thing), and as for the away games, phenomenal, Joining them both together there stands Dan, the drummer. You're a legend mate, keep banging your drum

So, one more time, 'Everywhere we go, everywhere we go.................' COYB :LoyalSupporter::LoyalSupporter::LoyalSupporter::LoyalSupporter:

Would like the opportunity to be taken to start with Benton.
If nothing else it sends a strong message that what he delivered and his attitude out on loan bring rewards.

We can still finish almost in the top half if we match what Yeovil is doing at Altrincham.
Always good to sign of on an upbeat note.
So we need our strongest team against a decent side we face again next term.
For the 400 at Plainmoor in September, it will be marked comparison from that day's woes when we managed not a single serious shot on target all 90+ minutes.
John White can come across again at the end, and maybe this time, he will get the send-off (we assume) he deserves.

I'd play players who are going to be here next season (unless we sell them). Then give a few minutes to people like Harrison Neal, John White, and possibly Kenny Clarke in thanks for their efforts.

Torquay used to have, and maybe still do, quite a number of London based fans who would have a day out.

Team will probably depend on whether Kev had a top half bonus clause written into his contract when he joined

Is Noor fit?
Arnie
Hobo, Kensdale, Ralph/Clifford or Gubbins
Powell, Husin, Neal, Benton/Wood, Bridge
Dalby, Cardwell.

Torquay United - a.k.a. The Gulls.

The name Torquay comes from the fishing quay on Torbay used by the monks of Torre Abbey. Like many seaside towns, the arrival of the railways saw the town expand rapidly as holiday makers arrived from the midlands & further away.

Although the club's badge says "1899" the current incarnation came into existence in 1921.

They have been re-elected to the football league on a number of occasions, flirted with going out of the league on numerous occasions and were finally due to be relegated in 1996 ........ but Stevenage's ground failed to meet muster.

Torquay were eventually relegated to the Conference in 2007 before quickly getting back into the league. A certain Martin Ling became their manager for a while.

Relegation to the Conference in 2015 was then followed by relegation to the Conference South & then immediate promotion back to the Conference. Their current manager has steadied the ship.

I remember them winning promotion at Roots Hall (2002 / 2003 ?). Tilly made our side stay out and watch them celebrate, and used it as motivation for the next season. It worked as we went up via the play-offs IIRC

Just to clarify from a Gull, we were originally called Torquay United in 1899, then changed to Torquay Town in 1910 before reverting back to United in 1921. So I guess the 1899 is still valid but unsure! (If not my name on here Is a fraud..!)

Anyway hope for a good match Sunday & more to play for next season for us both

Thank you for the clarification Gull1899.

I wasn't suggesting any "foul play" with regard to the 1899 date just trying to add some extra information.
