Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-2 Torquay United

I swear I was watching ballroom dancing out there today.........4 steps forward, turn and 5 steps back, turn and pass it sideways, 5 steps forward turn 6 steps back, pass it sideways

For us to even look to get out of this league we need tom put teams like this to sleep and its just not happening, next 4 games are huge and I hope we get somethinmg from the,m but I'm just not convinced

You don't gave to lose games to these teams, you can draw too.

Perhaps the question is depth of squad.

Let's look at riggtback. GSM is now first choice and Crowhurst started well. Would the money spent on say, giving JD anothrt year have been better spent on a genuine backup for Arnold?

We have gone into the loan market and picked up cosgrave who, respectfully doesn't look a threat.
And we would’ve drawn the Eastleigh game if it wasn’t for our inexperienced 19 year old keeper getting caught out by a freak shot from their own half. And we would’ve drawn today if it wasn’t for a hopeful shot that took a massive deflection.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If we’d known Crowhurst would prove himself to be a more than capable understudy to GSM then maybe Kev would’ve spent the JD money elsewhere.

I don’t think any of us know the thought process behind Cosgrave so unfair to comment. Maybe Wimbledon let us have him for the season on the understanding he wouldn’t be first choice when the injured strikers are back. Maybe we can terminate at any time. Maybe other clubs with better players we could've had might not have been keen on that.

As I said, back 3 don’t work if Wing back not doing the work by pushing themselves in advance positions. Clifford is NOT a LWB, plus the cross come from his side. Bridge must start at LWB next week!

Have to say I thought Torquay done their homework on us today.
The first half they closed us quick and didn't allow us any time on the ball.
Second half was much better and how we did not score quicker than when we did who knows but, we have got to learn to put chances away and put teams to bed.
Thought Kensdale had a good game today
Is it me or does Clifford seem vacant when playing. I don't know what it is but he never seems focused?
Thought the subs could have been sooner
Let's not get too pessimistic - and try to remain positive

Would we have destroyed them?
Murphy is the only out and out striker with any kind of record and we can't keep him fit for more than a handful of games per season. I think many are using our striker crisis as a convenient sheath to cover up our obvious inability to keep a clean sheet.
Yeah, we would’ve done. Murphy would have had a field day against that lot and Hyde and Cardwell would’ve given us the aerial threat that would’ve paid off given the bodies they piled in the box.

He’s had one long term injury with us. Hardly fair to say we can’t keep him fit for more than a handful of games.

We’ve also conceded less goals than Wrexham and have the joint third best defence in the league. But don’t let facts get in the way of your agenda.

To be fair .... this was totally against management orders. Kev and Daz were screaming at us all afternoon for not being positive and driving forwards. That's why with all due respect to the back 3, although we have only conceded 4 before today, we need a leader on that pitch that won't put up with bulls##t backwards sideways mediocrity. That's why we put aside sentiment and immediately Inject Kacper into that defense who will bark at players in front of him. That's exactly why we went on a 13 game unbeaten run last year and slipped when we lost him. Make the change now!!

Absolutely
Perhaps... and I agree he can kick long. My point is he wasn't even taking the kicks to go short, and when he had it in his hands he threw it 5 yards. The centre backs were taking the goal kicks ... so something isnt right. I'm wondering if he has a potential injury that prohibited him ... if so it's a huge concern we have.

Yes - my agenda of wanting to win a ****ing game every so often.

My initial thought for the time being is that Wreh MUST start over Cosgrave.

Oh and also, does Tom Clifford even want to be a professional footballer any more? He doesn’t look up for it at all these days.
I didn't make Monday's game so this is the first time I'd seen Cosgrave for a long spell. He wasn't bad with the ball and made some good runs but the man needs to take a shot. No wonder his goal return is relatively low. Wreh offers a lot more, yes he's raw and drifts in and out of games but at the moment he's the best goal threat we've got up front, especially if Mooney wants to keep trying to hit the back row of the South Upper.

No, Bridge should not be LWB next week. He is not a LWB.
Bridge would either be a LW in a midfield of 4 or a left sided forward in a front 3.

We desperately need Ralph back.

Round pegs and square holes do not work.

Clifford does not fit our system. He's a left back, never a left wing-back IMO. He'll continue to look out of place as a result I think.
