Post-Match Thread and Ratings Youth Cup Southend United 3 - 2 MK Dons, Tues 22nd Nov

A really good game and deserved win. Did feel like we were playing against 12 at times

We scored two very good goals and a scrappy one and rode our luck at times. MK at times were a bit dirty shoving one of our players over the advert boards and numerous niggling fouls and shirt pulling

They also were awarded a penalty for a blatant dive but fortunately it was saved onto the post

The most bizarre moment of the evening came second half. Sandat did well down the left wing and should have won a corner however neither ref or Lino gave it. He played on and then was fouled but freekick not given. The lad that made the foul then was injured around 15 yards from the byline, the ball got cleared but straight to Sandat who was around 30 yards from goal. As he started moving towards the goal he was flagged for offside! Despite remonstrating the ref even more bizarrely then awarded the freekick to them for the offside rather than admitting the mistake and giving us the ball back

Anyway good news is that we deservedly won the game. Don’t know what the attendance was but again wasn’t as large as we would have hoped for

Out of interest, how would you have re-started the game ?

I would accept that a mistake had been made and at least given Southend the ball back at the point the game was stopped, bit like when the ball hits the ref.

Don’t forget the the 2 footed kick out from their guy on the floor after he thought he had been fouled, right in front of the ref who saw it and did absolutely nothing!
yep saw that. There was a few very niggly things by the MK players and the longer the game went on the worst they got. ref was very poor. Apparently an Orient fan as well!

Would seem fair but .......
there is no provision in the Laws for re-starting with a drop ball (uncontested, as all drop balls are these days) because a mistake has been made. If the referee accidentally blows his whistle then play can be re-started that way. They made a mistake and the players have to live with it. Luckily it didn't cost us.

There was a little bit of “afters” I hear in the tunnel, Franchise FC were a tad upset about losing to the mighty shrimpets 😂😂

The Middlesbrough home tie appears to have been arranged for Friday 9th December at 19:30.

Except, for some inexplicable reason, all of the evening kick-offs in this round have switched to a 7pm kick-off.
