Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0 - 1 Barnet

I thought we played okay and matched Barnet in general play until they scored, then we fell apart unfortunately.

The biggest problem was that we never looked like scoring and whilst they probably had less of the ball they always looked more dangerous in the final third. Powell was poor and looked a shadow of the livewire from the first half of the season. Sandat tried hard and had a couple of good moments, and TBF he's only starting due to injuries/embargo.
When your attacking subs are an out of position Benton, and half fit Wreh, you know somethings wrong. Surely without the embargo we'd have bolstered options with a loan at least, cheers Ron you ****

I'll withhold judgement on Lopata until the truth emerges. I really hope the contract breach is the truth (in which case I don't blame him). If however there was a bust up....

Worst performance of the season imho.

If it wasn't for Blondy, we could have lost by 3 or 4.

Too many loose and under hit passes. Getting caught in possession to often.

Forwards not linking with midfield and lack of movement up front giving the midfield little or no options through the middle, so everything went wide, or just fizzled out.

We need that embargo lifted ASAP and we need an advanced playmaking central midfielder and a striker who knows there the net is and isn't a crock!

Blondy - 8.5 If it wasn't for his kicking it would have been 9.5 MoM

GUS - 7.5 tried hard, but had nothing to aim at in the middle for throws and crosses

Lomas - 7 Impressed going forward and carrying the ball.

Hobbo - 7 Not bad and covered the park well.

Kensdale - 7 Again carried the ball out well, looked at ease in the game.

Bridge - 6 Marked tightly but never created that telling chance, marshalled well by their defence

Miley - 6 OK going forward, but caught in possession a couple of times, can't knock the effort, but no finesse tonight.

Husin - 5 Under hit passes, fell over the ball and created little.

Taylor - 5 Won the ball well, but gave it straight back too many times and poor first touch.

Sandat - 5 Up against big lumbering CBs, but only got away from them once. tried hard but movement in the box poor over all, but will improve.

Powell - 3 Poor first touch, minimal link play, goes down too easily looking for free kicks, which aren't there, losing possession and only looks forward into dead ends, instead of turning to support from midfield and keeping the ball live. Offers little to the team and Must improve quickly or this is the highest level he will play at.

SUBS:

Benton - 5 worked hard with little of the right service.

Fonguck - 4 Little impact

Wreh - 5 Battled well, as per Benton little of the right service.

Maher - 10 Comments on Lopata spot on

Barnet came with a game plan.

Soak up pressure and hit us on the counter. Their big striker was a handful and IMHO they deserved the win.

They got through on goal 3 or 4 times and could have been out of sight.

We have a massive collection of crocks up top. Send Hyde back. Murphy is done and Cardwell is a good player that is constantly injured. I still like the look of Wreh but Powell isn't the answer.

We could literally need to lose 3 or 4 up top and replace them all. It's our downfall, but while we remain under an embargo it ain't gonna happen.

Their big bald defender was fantastic tonight. Won every single battle.

As for Barnet. They are not a good side but didn't need to be tonight.

If the rumours of Kacper are true then he is finished. No place for that at the club. I didn't expect that from him at all.

We move on and have two very tough games next week.

I liked Sandat but not sure if him and Powell are clicking at the moment. Wreh and Powell, whilst not prolific did have a partnership early in the season, I'd probably go for that if Wreh is fit enough and Cards still injured

Used to having depressing news but two lots in a day is really stressing me out.

In truth we are so light weight up front I was not too confident tonight especially with our record of messing up when getting a decent crowd. Barnet probably just about deserved the win with the mad bit of pin ball in the first half and the two one on ones that they failed to finish.

It is more the Lopata news that worries me most.

Have to see it again but thought Blondy spilt the one that they scored from…..Powell is like playing with 10 men, absolutely hopeless. Thought Husin and Taylor were excellent but how you meant to win a game with only Jack Bridge as an outlet and crosses being mopped up by 6ft 6 defenders? We have decent strikers that are all made of porcelain on the sick bed…a novice keeper that always has a mistake in him and now on to some hard matches.
At least we have a club for as long as it lasts but play offs got to be an outside chance in our predicament!

He’s too good for this league, let alone us or Notts

Sorry, but I cannot blame him for wanting out
Too bad, transfer deadline for EFL is done!! He a right ******** for what happened tonight. Even my girlfriend, also polish, agreed with me. He can fcuk right off now!!

Sandat - 5 Up against big lumbering CBs, but only got away from them once. tried hard but movement in the box poor over all, but will improve.
Have to disagree with you there. Sandat was a handful and drew the Barnet players into fouls numerous times. Was through on goal when pulled down by the last man which should have been a red card.
Played a delightful ball out to Scott-Morriss on 35 mins that was a pleasure to watch

Well the typical disappointing anti-climax after the return to a semblance of normality. Thanks the streaming i‘m nice a warm without having a journey where I wouldn’t have got home until 1 am. The game was like so many I have witnessed where if we don’t win a penalty we don’t win or look like scoring.

Again we could be playing to midnight without troubling the opposition keeper.

Virtually every free kick and corner we put straight onto Diarra’s head. Powell was a total passenger - he has no football brain whatsoever. Sandat did well for a 17 year old looks promising needs a bit more strength and pace. Bridge was his usual self, a lot more involved in the first half than the second. Scott - Morris seems to be our only goal threat. Why not stick him up front?

Blondy did fine apart from their goal - he should have pushed it behind for a corner instead of it squirming back into the middle of the goal.

Barnet weren’t great - game should have been 0-0.

Shame about the treatment room four - 35 starts between them….. out of a possible 132…..
