SUFC: The Future SUFC up for sale

Been away golfing, back today and trying to catch up. Understand DD is still in progress and, whilst Ron hasn't been obstructive, he hasn't been exceptionally collaborative either. My personal take on the wider noise is that there is one credible other party, but they're not advanced. More likely a ploy to drive more seller-friendly terms with the original buyers.

I'm still optimistic, but I must admit that it has ebbed a bit from a fortnight ago (although I still believe that short-term pain will ultimately be worth it to secure the long-term future of the club). As you can probably tell, most of my info has come from a particular side of this proposed transaction, and I'll be the first to admit that I got swept up in that initial wave of positivity. I apologise if that raised expectations, but I will reiterate that my source is reliable and still retains optimism this will conclude well.

The more someone admits they don’t know or the limitations on what they know the more credible their post is. This post therefore comes across as highly credible.

Surely everyone involved must be getting stressed with time.. pre season starts next week?? Imagine training with only 13/14 players

Does it start next week?

I understand that we won’t get updates of the takeover process but there is no reason for the silence on the playing side of things.
No friendlies announced, no announcement of when pre-season training will start. That’s much more ominous than the silence on the takeover.

Still there

Who amongst us, at one time or another, hasn’t posted the Southend United crest up on our social media?

I like some answers from mods, why I am on post approval, what did I do?
Quite a few things, Murkey. A number of which you have alluded to yourself in posts. Chief among them though were constant posts inciting action at RM’s house, or physical violence against his family.

While we all detest Ron, ShrimperZone is not going to allow itself to be the place for that kind of activity to be arranged. If you can learn to post without potentially causing legal or other issues to SZ, you won’t need to be moderated. Also, if you truly wish to improve your relationship with the site moderators perhaps sending a private message rather than posting publicly in the main forum?

As far as I can see, you’re failing on all counts at the moment. As such, Murkey and any other sock puppets you create will be moderated until such time as you can be trusted to post moderately and in line with site rules. Simples.

Thinks it's slightly different when the potential new owner posts it!!

And I'm only assuming it starts within the next week. Dagenhams starts Monday and Oldham's also starts next week. 41 days to go so I'd be surprised

If Mr Martin is dragging his feet then I am far from surprised, and it doesn't have to be because there are things he wants to hide (although there may well be).

As I have suggested in a previous post, he doesn't want to sell, he never wanted to sell, he just has to sell. It was forced on him, by "circumstances" if you like. I doubt he is terribly keen that the deal is done very quickly as once it is done he is "done". He will be yesterday's man, no longer in the spotlight, no longer calling the shots.

If this dallying leaves the club, the team, and the fans in the doo doo what does he care? It may even give him a warm feeling of schadenfreude to soothe his shattered ego with.

I don’t claim any insight, but I would bet handsomely that this is exactly where Ron’s head is at.

If as implied, Ron is becoming evasive/unavailable re the Kimura bid he could well be swinging towards the alleged Haart possible deal. It's like getting a job offer and preparing to accept it then at the eleventh hour you get what looks like an even better offer from someone else. In the meantime you string along the original party. I wouldn't be surprised if this is happening but like most of us can only speculate.

Pre season friendlies..... this from the GWR website:

Sturrock only had about 4 back in 2010.

Exactly and we have 12/13 very decent players for this level under contract.

Some of the concern at the moment is justifed. But a lot of the panic we are seeing at the moment is the social media generation wanting things done yesterday, if not it is a disaster.

Say the deal doesn't get done for another fortnight. It's bad news, we'd lose Bridge etc. We'd be further behind with our prep.

On the flip side, it is clear we have very serious interest in the club. They have not pulled out despute the obvious difficulties of dealing with Ron. They may well decide to risk a few quid on transfer fees once they are in, given that most of the decent free agents will be snapped up.

And there is no transfer window, meaning we can continue to improve the squad. Loan deals don't really start happening yet either and you would hope that with Ron gone, clubs will be happier to deal with us.

I will start panicking when we start losing people like Tom Lawrence/Maher/Still. Because that will indicate that things are going awry with a takeover.

It is all very frustrating but the season is still 6 weeks away. There is no catastrophe yet.

Spot on! One can only imagine how complicated the DD will be on this one and despite new owners wanting stuff done early so as not to hinder the team they’ve got to do this properly to satisfy any external investors and to comply with their own processes and regulators.

I think expectations were raised unrealistically a couple of weeks back and we all thought it might happen that day. The reality is Ron has woven a complex web of companies over the last 25 years (you only have to look at the number of Martin Dawn entities there are), throw into that land and planning agreements it must be a complete nightmare - let alone the fees they are racking up with lawyers and forensic accountants.

The reality is this could still take a few more weeks to sort out, so HMS **** The League may need to stay in dry dock for a while longer. If the end result though is we are finally rid of Ron, it might be worth the slow start to next season. The squad is looking a bit threadbare but there’s at least a competitive starting XI in there.

We need to keep the faith, and hope they do too.
