Question Statue

TrueBlue

⭐️
So browsing the lost grounds Facebook page I saw a post about what statues you have outside your respective clubs, I was surprised to see so many from so many different clubs.
This got me thinking who would we have a statue of? Who deserves it?

In seriousness, this is a great idea Scott. Honestly I can only really think of a small number of worthy candidates - Dave Webb, Tilly, Sid Broomfield and of course super Kev.

For me, Kev is already the leading candidate by a decent distance and if he can return us to the promised land of the league then that seals it. Lots of other heroes of the past deserve prominence in any SUFC museum (or whatever it would be called) but none have achieved more for the club overall than these four for me, and Kev’s loyalty and leadership as a player, captain and now Head Coach make him utterly unassailable in my view.

What I would like to know much more about is the story of the original founders. Who were they? How many were there? What was their original vision? Did they overcome any hurdles and hardships to give birth to the fantastic football club that’s given us so much happiness over the years (despite Ron’s dead hand on the tiller).

Some honourable mentions, but how many statues do we want? If we’re including the (unquestionably heroic and legendary) names mentioned there are quite a few more over the century as deserving.

I would have thought a statue is really only for the stand out single legend of all time, otherwise we’ll be giving the Terracotta Army a run for its money.

I love what Arsenal do with their legends statues.

We could have one of Benji celebrating putting the ball in the bury net.

Duncan Jupp and Freddy Celebrating the League Two play off win

King Kev lifting the League One trophy with Goater

Adam Barrett celebrating his penalty in the play off final and one of Michael Timlin scoring with his bandage on his head during the semi finals.

I think the ground should be littered with pictures of our great moments in history. I know certain parts do. But for someone who either comes in the West or the South East end it could just be a generic football ground. Other than the Sid Broomfield photo in the South Upper there isn’t a lot else.

Totally agree we do have quite a small pool as it were compared to other clubs who seem to have a stand out person. I would like to think Adam Barrett could be a potential candidate.

Thing is it’s ok saying people like Eastwood or Stan but in terms of longevity they don’t cut it

Reason I raise this as well is because it could be the perfect time to get the ball rolling on this if roots hall is going to be redeveloped.
I’m sure the trust would be supportive of something like this! Only debate is who the statue should be of?
