I am not looking to the artificial grass, we never seem to get to grips with it. This is potentially a big factor in this game and certainly helps to level the game out. It seems like it is going to be wet and windy too.

Think the pitch they have recently put down is quite a high spec version and supposedly one of the better ones out there.
I don't think wood will be going anywhere whilst needed for a full subs bench. If other players come in next year I think he will be let go.

I was also at the 10-1 victory but the following season I went to watch Brentwood Town in the FA cup play Northampton Town. An evening game played in atrocious conditions with the winners drawn against Manchester United. Brentwood lost 0-1 and Northampton progressed into the next round to play in a famous game where George Best rounded the goalkeeper twice before scoring.
Snap!
Got talked into going to the Brentwood game by a neighbour who said: "Now Southend are out of the Cup do you fancy seeing what a third round tie is like?" Cheek! But I did go.
The only thing I remember was a late sub for Brentwood who looked about 45, but proceeded to run the show albeit without the equaliser.

Doing well - in-form Danny Ogunleye has scored 17 goals already for Brentwood Town already this season (Image: ALAN EDMONDS)

BRENTWOOD Town dangerman Danny Ogunleye will have Chris Barker in his thoughts when he faces Southend United on Saturday.

Ogunleye, who has scored 17 goals already this season, was in the Forest Green Rovers youth team coached by Barker prior to his death in January 2020.

And Ogunleye remains keen to do the ex Shrimpers skipper proud.

“He meant a lot to me,” said Ogunleye, who played in a match to remember Barker at Roots Hall in May 2022.

“He helped me so much with my development in my younger years when I was at Forest Green.

“He really helped me become the player that I am.

“He gave me so much support and helped me adapt to the more physical side of the game.

“I’m very happy he was in my life and hopefully I can do well for him.

“I still think about him all the time and I definitely will this weekend as it’s Southend we’re playing.”

Ogunleye, who can play anywhere across the front three, has continually caught the eye for Brentwood this season.

And he cannot wait for tomorrow’s FA Trophy tie with the Shrimpers.

“We’re really looking forward to it and there’s going to be a big crowd for us,” said Ogunleye.

“The atmosphere is going to be great and I’m sure all the boys will be ready for it.

“It’s exciting and something we welcome.

“It was a similar atmosphere against Hereford in the last round and we dealt with it quite well.

“We got the job done and we’ve dealt with any challenge coming our way so hopefully we will against Southend too.

“It’s going to be a very very good game.”

Brentwood head into the game sitting seventh in the Isthmian North standings and were boosted by a 3-1 win at Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday night.

Ogunleye scored twice late on in the victory and is pleased with how his season is shaping up.

“I’m very happy with my form at the moment,” said Ogunleye.

“I set myself a target in terms of goals and I’m on my way to reaching it.

“Helping the team get points is the main thing and then hopefully we can push for promotion to get out of the league.”

Brentwood are currently two points and two positions below the play-offs.

And Ogunleye is confident of kicking on.

“We’re doing quite well but we’ve lost a few games I don’t think we should’ve lost,” said Ogunleye who first joined Brentwood three years ago.

“We’ve bounced back from it and we’re in good form.

“We’re just outside the play-offs right now and we want promotion.

“We can definitely get play-offs, if not more.”

But, longer term, Ogunleye has his own ambitions to achieve.

I want to push on and get back into the pro game,” said the 22-year-old.

“That’s my aim.”

Taking the Trophy seriously - Southend United boss Kevin Maher (Image: FOCUS IMAGES)

KEVIN Maher has stressed Southend United will take the FA Trophy seriously this season - starting with Saturday's trip to Brentwood Town.

The Shrimpers head to the Arena for an all Essex third round tie this weekend.

And Maher will be treating the game the same way as a National League encounter.

“We will prepare the same way we would any league game,” said the Blues boss.

“We’re looking forward to it.

“It’s local and there will be a big crowd in for Brentwood which is good.

“We’ll take as many as we possibly can of course and we’ll be preparing with the same level of detail we always do so we’ll be ready.”

Southend go into the game sitting 14th in the league standings, 62 places higher than Brentwood in the football pyramid.

But Maher will not be taking Town lightly.

“We’ll make sure the lads are bang at it because Brentwood had a really good result in the previous round, winning at Hereford, and they’ve got some really dangerous players,” said Maher.

“We’ll be professional and get ourselves right so we can do our job properly.

“It’s a competition we will take seriously and want to do well.”

Blues make the short trip to Brentwood looking to build on Saturday’s 2-0 win at Halifax Town.

And Maher confirmed he would be picking a strong starting line-up.

“We will be strong,” said Maher.

“It’s important to say we won’t be taking anything lightly, whatever the team is.

“We’ll have a look at it but we won’t be giving much away before hand obviously.

“It’s a game we’ll be strong for and it’s one we want to win but we believe we can make changes and still be strong.”

Brentwood are currently seventh in the Isthmian North standings.

And Maher will not have far to travel for the game.

“It’s not quite walkable but it’s not far at all,” said the Brentwood based Maher.

“I’ve been across there quite a few times.

“There’s a new 3G over there as well which is beneficial for them as well.”

Saturday’s game will go straight to penalties if the two teams are level after 90 minutes.

The draw for the fourth round will take place on Monday.

I wonder if the game will get postponed due to the weather. Gusts of 50 + mph forecast for tomorrow, it will be almost impossible to play in those sorts of conditions.

It's more likely to be abandoned after playing for a quarter of an hour or so if the forecast gale and rain turns up.
