Ritchie Foran - allegedly joins Shrimpers

Not sure if he's the answer to our problems, but as soon as he pulls on a navy blue shirt (IF he does), I'll be 100% behind the fella.

Yeah, goes without saying but if we really have spent that amount on him, you're not telling me we couldn't have got somebody else decent in, e.g. Grant Holt or someone of that ilk?

Considering that Holt went to Forrest for £300,000 then not really no.

So why did they accept that £200k bid from Bristol City, which the player turned down then? Foran probably would want more money having had a SPL contract than Holt who's only played in L1 & L2 mainly since he got let go (by Wednesday was it?)

I have to agree with GlasgoSUFC here, have seen Richie play numerous times and he has never impressed me.

As I said previously, and for some reason got absolutely slated for it, he wasnt good enough got Carlisle in there dark days when trying to avoid relegation to the Conference, so how can he possibly be good enough for this level? Simple answer, he cannot be.

Dont get me wrong, if he pulls on a Southend shirt he will get all the backing he needs from me, but it is a waste of time and money bringing in someone who is on a par with Harrold and Hooper.

As Glasgow said, i would prefer to see the Paynter given a longer run in the side.

RC, you seem to have this big issue with Hooper but I don't see why. The kid looks like he could be a quality striker, to me.

The last time he got a chance up front was against Man United and he looked pretty good that night.

Fair point Beefy, I wasnt trying to slate Hooper, although I appreciate it came across like that, I think he has potential for the future. My problem with him, although not so much him, is that he isnt yet ready to carry our forward line and it is wrong of Tilly to expect him to be an option for us, when at the moment, I simply dont believe he is.

Its all a matter of opinions I guess, and that is just mine.
