Cricket World Cup 2019

I'd take Plunkett over Willey but that's a minor quibble and out of your choice of Dawson and Denly I'd take Dawson.

I particularly like your designation of Jordan as a specialist sub-fielder and rehabilitation of Hales.

I think Billings is a big loss as squad depth. He's an explosive batsman finally pulling it together at international level and a very good fielder. Terrible timing for him.

Although I originally opted for Willey and having a left armer, I think I agree with you that Plunkett was the better option. I hadn't realised just how many wickets Plunkett had taken in the middle overs in the last 4 years in ODIs.

Overall I like the squad we have picked, the fact there was so much debate regarding the fringe players shows what strength in depth we have. We beat Pakistan 4-0 without ever fielding our best 11 together. This is a phenomenal group!

I am off to the Oval on Monday for our last warm up against Afghanistan and then I'm in Southampton for our group game against the Windies. Really looking forward to this festival of cricket.

with no Hales and Billings being injured it was a straight decision between Vince and Denly.
personally I would have opted for Foakes who had a very good 50 over domestic tournament.

I am a big Northeast supporter and thought he would have deserved a shout, just personal views, and yes Foakes good shout

One day cup final looking very one sided while Hants best player plays in meaningless warm up game when he should be pulling on the pads for his county.
Lords finals are why county players play the game and the England management should have seen common sense and let him play. He will gain nothing from this and could have come into the World cup with his confidence sky high - poor decision.

Agree SAM and why played Rashid and Archer very strange when they didn’t bowl and came in last two batsmen
Very bizzarre choice

They have to be the most improved team of recent times. Hell of a final slog by Afghanistan.

Was at the oval for the Afghanistan game. They came up against the best team in the world and they aren't at that level. I think they will get a couple of wins this world cup. Their fans will certainly bring something, I was really impressed by them, loud and gave their team great support. I'd love to be a Afghan batsman getting a standing ovation for hitting a single haha

In fairness Ricky few teams are up to our level at the moment

Afghan are bringing to the game, colour, noise and a few shocks, good win v Pakistan in last week friendly will boost their chances of a couple of shock results

When you think 30 years ago they had just started playing and had to start in the bottom league, in one of the games amazing transformation into World sport.
Give these guys a few years of getting beat by the senior teams and learning from them, and I think they will become the new Sri Lanka and see some shocks and decent players on the world scene

Hope im wrong, but i expect our English cricketers will flop again.
By that i mean they wont win it.
Im still trying to get over the WC 1992,down under, when we should have won it.
Getting beat by the Aussies last saturday, could well be a good thing.
We need to start off well, the last 3 games are very hard,Aussies,India and NZ,i think
But fingers crossed,no bad luck....lets hope we do it

I know what you mean Ozzie, but I do feel this time we have experience and the raw talent of Archer, who is like a breathe of fresh air to the squad

Aussie will never make it easy for us, but if you are not pumped up for that game, you never will be for any other

End of innings, England 311-8.

Not a complete disaster, but i feel realistically we should have / could have put in a score of around 370.

Shame Bairstow (with his duck) Butler (18) Moeen (3) and Woakes (13) to an extent didnt perform as i expected them to be, otherwise i think we would have been close to the 370 mark.
