Bury & Bolton points deficit

Because they have a future financial plan in place which the EFL have accepted is viable (despite the takeover being currently suspended ) . Bury on the otherhand have no money, no visible means of support , no plan and nothing on the horizon, basically they will go pop any moment. so its easier to cancel a couple of games and set a deadline that hope it all goes away and re-jig the results etc if they eventually go under after playing 15 games.

It may well be 'in place' but as they still have no money, hence no bolstering of the squad, they have been forced to field weakened sides which only to the benefit of the opposition. Why has this situation been allowed by the EFL? Surely until such time as the money is in they should have had their matches deferred / re-jigged ?

Agreed, the current few weeks are the time to play BWFC and get the present of the points, new money, lots of signings and it will be a different story for the teams, us included, who will not get the gift points.

They will need to move quickly. The transfer window is due to end, and if they don't get themselves sorted before then they'll have to continue with what they have until the January window unless they can tap into free agency (apols for NFL speak).

Oh yes, I know it will be very hard for them and (if) Bury; but the EFL is a business and it is not being run properly nor is the competition being managed fairly. Consider the team that get relegated who "only" took 1 or 3 points from them and the team left safe as they had an early season 3 point gift (such as Wycombe who may be a relegation bet).
When we started the season under Mr Sturrock I don't recall much empathy with our predicament just mocking and derision (possibly deserved but).
I doubt the league would have allowed us, and Mr Martin such moderate accountability.

Which is why I said this situation isn't fair on the teams in League 1 that don't get to play Bolton at this stage of the season. The fact that the EFL have allowed this to happen is ridiculous.

A sixth game suspended whilst chairman Dale rejects an offer to buy the club. Seems a slow death in the offing. Pity those staff and players still awaiting their back-pay.

Bolton latest...

Bolton Wanderers have been set a deadline of Tuesday to complete the sale of the club or provide "credible plans" they can complete this season, or else face expulsion from the English Football League.

The League One club have been in administration since May.

They are the subject of a takeover bid by Football Ventures but the EFL are "concerned" by ongoing delays.

"The current situation cannot continue," the EFL said in a statement.

"If a successful conclusion to a sale is not found or there are no credible plans for the club to continue the season in administration by the planned board meeting at 17:00 BST on Tuesday 27 August 2019, then the EFL board will consider lifting the suspension on the notice of withdrawal of the club's membership of the league."

Are the parties involved really serious about taking on the club if they are apparently just as ready to walk away and let it fold?

BOLTON face liquidation later this week unless a deal to buy the club which collapsed over the weekend can be resurrected at the 11th hour.

The party trying to buy the club have signed an agreed deal according to rumours, but the current owner at the last minute apparently decided he could get more money out of them and so refused to sign it. The owner has claimed it isn't his fault and that the Eddie Davis Trust (which was set up because Davis died shortly after loaning the club £5m last time they were in trouble and someone needed to manage it) are actually the ones holding things up. Either way though the new buyers were under the impression everything was agreed and suddenly they've been told to cough up more money or the deal isn't going through. If they're being taken for a ride I wouldn't blame them for walking away no matter how much they want to save the club.

Unthinkable that such a well supported club such as Bolton could cease to exist! Bad enough to see the plight of Bury, but given Bolton’s fan base it must take a lot to take them down.

Stark warning here for other clubs (including ourselves)...

Something needs to be done by the footballing authorities to stop rogue chairman and unscrupulous companies buying clubs or more will follow.

There need to be more rules about running up debt - living beyond their means is what's killing these two. Clubs get round it by hiding the debt in a myriad of other companies and loans, then the owners who have run up the debt scarper, leaving some muppet 'holding the baby'.
We have good reason to watch what's happening here. Our problem isn't Ron Martin - it's what happens after Ron Martin.

Equally, the EFL is delaying and delaying in the hope that a buyer comes along. Fair play to them - they don't want to see these clubs go out of existence. But anyone who takes the job on at this stage is either a genuine fan with money to burn (and any of these would surely have appeared by now) or another complete muppet who doesn't know what they are getting in to - there's no business sense to taking over Bury or Bolton. If one of them is 'saved' the EFL will be turning a blind eye to 'fit and proper person' rules - they'll take anyone who turns up with a plan as they won't want to be the organisation that kills these clubs by refusing to sanction a deal. As such the saga will continue.

Bin them from the league for this season and give them until 1st January to apply to be part of L2 next season with money sorted and ready to go.
Scrap all points and goals awarded against them.

Read an article in The Sun today (Ken Lawrence) that pretty much sums up the fact that it is less that individual clubs are mis-managed and that the EFL also has some responsibility to restructure the whole thing asthenosphere system is encouraging clubs into deeper and deeper debt. As well as Bury and Bolton, 7 clubs, including ours are cited as being in deep financial do do.

This week may see the sad demise of two historic clubs, but I fear Mr Lawrence is right, this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Probably not a bad shout, that. Go away and sort your **** out!
