  1. You'll never walk alone ......

No-one wants to knock Steve Tilson and the great job he has done, or knock the players who have got the club into the Championship so its not criticism to try make suggestions or point out things out. And Southend have got where they are trying to play the game the right way and theres a lot...
  2. Bill Garner

Anyone else have the pleasure of seeing the legend that is Bill Garner on the pitch at half time? And goes anyone know why such a legend was given the job of collecting up unused footballs during half time?

    The fbm view

Pre-season friendly results don't mean much.  Everyone says so, and even Tillys pre match notes stressed this point. Of course, it's very easy to say this if you win.  But whilst the result may be relatively meaningless, I defy anyone to claim that they are not inwardly just a little concerned...

    Match report from a

Found this from a neutral O's fan , NOT A travesty of a result for what it matters. Orient were much the better side and with better luck in front of goal would have had this game sewn up long before Eastwood's 20 yard daisy cutter into the bottom left hand corner drew the sides level...

DOncaster Rovers at home 1971/72 season

Just thought I would share with you that tomorrow is the 34th anniversary of my very first Southend United match. It was at home to Doncaster Rovers on Friday, 31 March 1972 (it was Good Friday). We won 2-1 thanks to Bill Garner and Billy Best. I stood on the South Bank with my older brother.
  6. Hope he is better than his Dad

I hope Fallon, if he is the new striker, is better that his Dad was when he played for Southend. Kevin Fallon played for us between July 1970 to June 1971 as a reserve stiker in the days of Billy Best and Bill Garner. Me and my mate Richard used to go and see him play for the reserve's and...

    Cambridge

On Friday 21st April 1972, Southend sat in 2nd place in Division 4 and on the verge of their first promotion in their history. We had gone 14 games unbeaten, and needed to beat Cambridge at home that evening to go top, as we were just 1 point behind leaders Grimsby. Cambridge were mid-table...

    Southend Convicts XI

a very interesting discussion arose on the way back today, on the train, and that was southends all time top 11 convicts as players. I have come up with the following, in goal, Darryl Flahavan (We all know what supposedly happened) in the back so far, leo roget (supposed theft of shinpads...

    A short but sweet guide

Southend United F.C. are an English football team currently playing in Football League Two. Their home ground is Roots Hall stadium in Victoria Avenue Prittlewell. Their nicknames are 'The Shrimpers' or 'The Blues'. Currently the team is managed by former player Steve Tilson...

    The ref tonight

We've got Andy Woomer in charge tonight. As it's a name I can't remember off hand I decided to look up his reports on Rate The Ref: From Bury 1-1 Chester on the 21st August: "That ref was as bad as they come. I'm sure he didn't mean to be but he was totally biased...
