Southend United boss Paul Sturrock has added defenders Mark Phillips and Luke Prosser to his squad ahead of next Saturday's npower League Two season kick-off.

Good bit of cover there.

That's Sturrocks 13th and 14th signings since he arrived, that's a fair few in the time he's been here!

Nice to get more bodies in of course. But i'm a little concerned about the quality of these two (especially Prosser) But, here's hoping they do the business. Welcome lads.

In July 2009, a "momentary lapse of concentration" led to Prosser hitting 108mph on the M6 Toll road. Two months later he was banned from driving for seven days and fined £225 (plus £50 costs)

Simple mistake I suppose.

If that had been RM he would have classed that as a court victory

FOUR PERMANENT CENTRE BACKS!!!!!??? I've forgotten what that was like.

Phillips should be a very solid acquisition. I'm pretty happy he's finally signed up.

Prosser though? Hmm. I'm hoping he's fourth choice. He might have impressed Sturrock in one game, but he also impressed in his first game on trial at Barnet. He sounds like a bit of a walking disaster. Who knows though, Coughlan might just help his game come on.

He played for Widdrington, its not based on one game.

That is true I suppose, but the references from his former club are not good.

Hopefully Coughlan will help him out and the fact that he is closer to home than before might encourage better performances on the pitch.

Widdrington obviously rates him, but I think you are right, he isnt going to be in the 1st team anyway.

I have driven on the M6 Toll road and being a more modern motorway and often quiet you can get up to to them sort of speeds quite easily we have all done it so no issue from me.

It's not 2 players, it's 4.

Chris Barker has signed on a month's loan from Plymouth and Josh Simpson on 6 months from Posh.

Shame as Barker sounds like he is only for cover, but sounds like he has got great pedigree. 29, played a lot in the CCC for Stoke and got Cardiff's POTY in 2005. Doubt we'd be able to get him permanently, but I guess he'll be 1st choice for the start of the season.
