Life was so much different then when we embarked on what was to turn out to be the most momentous season in our history. Or was it so different? What has struck me how young a lot of the team were. Ages at the start of that season.
Paul Sansome 28
Dean Austin 20
Spencer Prior 19
Dave Martin 27
Chris Powell 20
Peter Butler 24
Paul Clark 31
Steve Tilson 24
Andy Ansah 21
Brett Angell 22
Ian Benjamin 28
plus
Adam Locke 20
John Cornwall 25
Pat Scully 20
Christian Hyslop 18

No one else appeared in more than 7 games as we got promoted to Division 2.
Of those 15 players above, 8 of them were 22 or under at the start of the season and only 5 aged 25 and over. Throw in a couple of appearances from 18 year olds Andy Edwards and Paul Smith you could say it was boys against men a lot of the time.

Those boys were a lot better than the ones we have now!

One of our rare great starts to a season 5 straight wins. We hardly ever have a good start to a season.

I am surprised to see how young some of them were too. I think the difference from now is that you had players like Clark, Butler and Martin who never gave up and were motivational characters alongside the youngsters.
