5 Players who made you fall in love with Southend and Football

As these were pretty much my first full season supporting the blues, these players helped form my love for Southend

Sansome
Angell
Butler
Ansah
Collymore

As for non Southend

Hoddle
Ardiles
Villa
Gazza
Cruyff

The nature of the question asked means,I think, answers should come from fans’ initial watching—say the first five years, thus ruling out the likes of Stan and Freddie. My choices:
S.U.
Sammy McCrory
Duggie Price
Peter Corthine
Peter Watson
Kevin Baron

Other
Jimmy Greaves. Chelsea
Johnny Haynes. Fulham
Bobby Robson WBA
John Charles. Leeds
Duncan Edwards Manure

The following players have been selected from when I started watching the Blues in 1962:-

1. Mike Beesley (1962-65 & 1967-71).
2. John McKinven (1960-69).
3. Tony Bentley (1961-71).
4. Ray J. Smith (1961-67)
5. Peter Watson (1959-66)
However my favourite all-time Southend United player is Billy Best (1968-73).

The first five players have been selected from players I had seen play live between 1962-65.

1. George Best (Manchester United).
2. Denis Law (Manchester United).
3. Jimmy Greaves (Tottenham Hotspur).
4. Ray Crawford (Ipswich Town).
5. Ted Phillips (Ipswich Town).
My favourite all-time player is Kevin Keegan.

Southend:

Gascoigne
Baresi - Channel 4 Football Italia
Batistuta - As above and Anglo Italian cup vs Southend

George Best
Pele
Johann Cruyff
Malcom McDonald
Kenny Dalglish
(So many I could have named)
Hard to argue with my Southend five as above but Colin Morris would have to be in there. This is only based on the players that I loved from first watching

1. Leon Constantine - we were super poo and all of a sudden mr 2 goals in his whole career pulls 20+ in a season for us.
2. Freddie Eastwood - those who got to see him play will just know ?
3. Leon Cort - again someone else’s trash turned out to be a real gem.
4. Adam Barrett - Southend Through And through And a superb player - what passion
5. Bilel Mohsni - when he wasn’t being red carded, he was like an absolute beast and had the continental arrogance to pull off the spectacular.

Non Southend

1. Eric Cantona - just loves his attitude, grace and footballing brain
2. David Beckham - passing range was insane
3. Alesandro Del Piero - Guy was a wizard
4. Cristiano Ronaldo - professional, stunning ability and done it in 3 leagues ...FU Messi
5. Gianluca Palliuca - vastly underrated Italian goalkeeper

Southend top five

Freddy Eastwood

Non-Southend
Cruyff
Beckenbauer
Hoddle
Kevin Beattie
George Best

Southend:

Mike Marsh
