Mohsni's injury time goal on Saturday was our 50th league goal of the season (makes us the joint 5th highest scorers in the country behind Man City, Man Utd, Sheff Utd and Huddersfield).

I've had a look back through the seasons and our previous quickest was the glorious 1980/81 season when we had 50 goals on the board by the end of December. However, we'd played 28 games by this stage rather than the 25 we've played this season.

This got me thinking about our record scoring for the league. Here are our ten best:

1951 - 92
1958 - 90
1956 - 88
1959 - 85
1955 - 83
1972 - 81
1929 - 80
1928 - 80
1981 - 79
1969 - 78

So to beat the record we'll need another 43 goals in our 21 remaining games. A pretty tough ask but despite all the hoofball criticism we seem to be quite potent. You'd certainly fancy us to get into the top 5 this season. The 1920's hauls were pretty impressive as there was only 42 games played prior to the 1951 (however there definitely seemed to be more goals scored in those days as I'm sure Cricko and Harry can confirm).

Here's our ten worst seasons:

1923 - 49
2007 - 47
2003 - 47
1998 - 47
1980 - 47
1975 - 46
1921 - 44
1997 - 42
1949 - 41
1922 - 34

Again, the three 1920's seasons were played with less games. Also a reminder of just how miserable those more recent seasons were!!

CP tweeted that its the quickest to 50 goals since 1957

Edit ....I presume that in 57/58 we got to 50 before the New year hence 57 being in his tweet and 58 being in the OP

SNAP! I was doing the same research, in terms of finding how likely it would be for us to reach 100 goals this season and how that compared with previous campaigns.
1957/8 started with quite a bang ..........a 0-5 victory at Exeter on the opening day was followed up by 5-2 win against Norwich and a 6-0 victory against QPR! In the opening four matches McCrory had already bagged 7goals, Hollis 6 and McGuigan 3...........after that things quietened down a bit! We had, if my addition is correct, scored 51 goals by the end of the year. The second-half of the season was less prolific with 39 goals scored and that included a 6-3 win against Northampton, in the last match.
Interesting to look at Luggy's 2001/2 season, where he got Plymouth out of the hole that is League Two, amassing a massive 102 points along the way. In that season Plymouth only scored 71 goals.
Plymouth 46 19 7 2 41 11 12 7 4 30 17 102
