Events at Eastlands and Stamford Bridge appear to be accelerating, with a strange swap deal between Robinho and Drogba being hammered out with Chelsea

Yesterday`s decision by Kaka to reject a record-breaking move to Manchester City has left the newly-minted Eastlands outfit with money to burn and a desire for a trophy signing. Somehow Chelsea`s Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy simply don`t match up to those ambitions, with the club desperate to make a big-name signing for their front line.

As the Kaka deal began to collapse, apparently Man City`s emissaries made contact with Chelsea to ask them about Didier Drogba. The Ivorian captain is a superstar in Africa and the Middle East, and Chelsea are aware that his relationship with Chelsea is likely to have come to an end after not even being pulled into the squad for the past two games. Mark Hughes is said to be a fan of the player, who at his best is a frontline bully like the Welshman.

Chelsea would view a sale of their striker as positive, particularly if the price was right, and it is clear that Manchester City have the cash to satisfy Chelsea`s pretensions.

The only problem is that Robinho is worth 30m, where Drogba probably isn't worth much more than 7m given the fact that he hasn't played well since 2007 and is getting on a bit.

Chelsea haven't got any money to spend, so it would have to be weighted with more players to make sense.
