With York surprisingly now level on points with us, in 7th with a +8 goal difference compared to their +6, anything less than a win against Bristol Rovers on Friday (and hoping York lose against Pompey at Fratton Park on saturday) would be a disaster.

This winless run needs to come to an end sooner rather than later and if we keep going the way we are we will finish mid-table, undoubtedly. Apart from our draw with Scunny, we haven't played like a top 7 team for ages.

York (52 pts), Plymouth (51 pts and have a game in hand on us) & Hartlepool (49 pts) can all move into the play-offs with wins in their next respective matches. Hartlepool mathmatically, as they would need to beat Oxford away on Friday by 4 or more goals.

The only game being played tomorrow night that could affect our league position is Plymouth v Chesterfield

Top 10:

1. Chesterfield - P - 37 / GD - 26 / PTS - 66
2. Scunthorpe - P - 37 / GD - 21 / PTS - 65
3. Rochdale - P -36 / GD - 17 / PTS - 64
-------------------------------------------
4. Fleetwood - P - 37 / GD - 12 / PTS - 61
5. Burton - P -37 / GD - 5 / PTS - 61
6. Oxford - P - 37 / GD - 11 / PTS - 56
7. Blues - P - 37 / GD - 8 / PTS - 52
-------------------------------------------
8. York - P - 37 / GD - 6 / PTS 52
9. Plymouth - P 36 / GD - 0 / PTS - 51
10. Hartlepool - P - 37 / GD - 4 / PTS - 49

WE have to win games. The other teams hardly matter. Unless we start winning and then keep winning - the maths are not going to come into it.

Final league 2 table from last year - at least we're safe now!

Can do all the maths in the world, the fact is we realistically need to win 6 of the remaining 9 left.

Good luck with that.

Why a disaster does the season end this weekend then ? :duh:

Its actually potentially far worse than I think we realize. (again assuming no errors)

For the next two games, NONE of the seven teams below us play each other, in the third match only Hartlepool play Cheltenham. So 6 of the teams below us could potentially get 9 points in the next three games , in other words if we don't win some of our next three matches then realistically we are going to be overtaken , by teams with game(s) in hand over us.

On the other hand of course if Oxford implode we could catch them

I noticed Newport got a point yesterday,With all their games in hand they can't be ruled out yet either.

Given they were at home to the team in 22nd, I prefer to think of that as two points dropped rather than a point gained !! Newport are on a similar vein of form to us.

Indeed and the only team Newport have beaten in their last 14 is Oxford. Don't these teams want to go up !!!

No point worrying about the others. We need to get our own house in order. As the late Al Davis was fond of saying...

I'd forgotten that Bradford finished 7th and went up (69 points).

It could be worse. Northampton finished 6th and are now sitting 23rd and looking at the conference.
9 games to go and we need 9 more points to match last seasons 61pts. I think it will be a very close thing.

Just shows what bad luck it was to finish outside tha autos a few seasons back with 81 points.

Getting 83 points with sturrock in that season, just shows how awful that league was! Not how well we did, cos if we did well, we would not have bottled being top!

9 more turgid draws ahead then

And this league is good this year?! This year may be closer but Ive not seen anyone as good as the likes of Swindon.

83 points in that year was a massive achievement, and even if the league was easier to get 20+ points more than this season was far better achievement than what we have done this year.
