East Thurrock United have signed young defender Abdul Salami on loan from League One side Southend United until the end of the season.

Abdul Salami

Salami, who turns 19 next month, joined Southend in 2012 and has already marked himself out as a very determined youngster who has all the physical attributes required by a central defender.

A towering presence at the back, he has no problems with the aerial aspect of the game, whilst he has also shown himself to be adept with the ball at his feet as well.

Salami signed a new contract with the Shrimpers in April to become part of the club`s under-21 set-up.

A good move, this is a young man with potential and he needs to be playing regular competitive football.

Played for them tonight in their 5-1 win away at Gosport Borough. James Walker came on as a sub.

For Gosport, Rowan Vine (remember him?) was that rarity - a substituted substitute

He might banger few goals in. I wonder if ETU sent as SOS(age).

I live about 400 metres from ETU so if they're at home Saturday I'll report. Briefly.

I've heard his goal scoring record from freekicks could be better but he "chipolata" balls over the crossbar.

Interesting that PB isn't loaning out most of our under 21's as he thinks its better to keep the side together but lets one go to East Thurrock where we have scouts watching Tom Wraight every game. Probably putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but could we be smoothing the way for a move this window or the summer?

Seen him play a couple of times for the under 21s and looks a good player and one to hold on to for the next couple of years:thumbsup:

Tom Wraight you say, had trials with Ipswich and Gillingham - he could be worth a punt...
