Sad news. I read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch last year, and it's a worthy candidate for the next 'book recommendation' thread. There just aren't many accounts of life in the gulags written by those who actually lived through the experience, and with good reason since a) so many of the occupants had no real prospect of release and b) those that did were keen not to end up back there. A very brave and principled man.
