Saturday 8th April

On Saturday 8th April ten Shrimpers Trust members & supporters together with Southend United's Commercial Director, Danny Macklin will be walking the 35.7 miles to the away game between Southend United and Charlton Athletic, to raise funds for the Trust and Little Havens Hospice. The team will be setting off from Roots Hall Football Stadium at the ridiculous hour of 11pm the previous day, aiming to arrive at The Valley London SE7 home of League 1 local rivals Charlton Athletic in time for a 3pm kick off the following day.

We really want to do all we can to make this event a great success and therefore any sponsorship pledge you can make no matter how small will be very welcome, with monies raised to be split 50/50 between the Trust and Little Havens Hospice.

Full details can be found on the Trust Website here.

Best wishes to the persons doing it not a huge distance, but certainly a challenge; especially as it won't be over the more scenic parts that distance walks usually choose.

*Bump*

Start time has been brought forward to 11 p.m. tonight from the original midnight - good luck to all the guys (and Lesley) doing this, utter admiration for them! Collection buckets will be passed around the away end tomorrow.

Last update I received was about an hour ago. They were going through Hornchurch about an hour ahead of schedule and still going strong.

Think they've just started the swim across The Thames!

Apologies for no updates, we were at my step daughter's wedding in North Essex with no wifi connection! They all completed the walk without any setbacks, an hour or so ahead of schedule, as of yesterday, money raised looked to be in excess of £7,000 so they were hoping to push it on today, with bucket collections around the away supporters.

Have to say, I was a bit disappointed that there was no mention of it that I heard at Charlton. They were accommodating enough to the team who'd walked on arrival but a little announcement would have been welcome.

Well done, all.

Chatted with one of the ladies who completed it and was collecting before the game.

Top effort!

She did, indeed.

No aches or pains, she said, either!
