Anglo-Italian Cup

I went to go to Reggiana away I think it was. Club were charging £300 odd quid to go and at sixteen that was a lot so my mate Mark who is a few years older than me did some investigation.

He worked out we could go Dover-Callais by boat, Callais to Paris by train, Paris to Milan by overnight Train and then Milan to Reggiana (Not actually sure who we are playing) Only snag was we only had an hour to cross Paris. No worries though.

Did the first bit of the journey. Crossed Paris in world record time. Got a few beers in for the trip etc (Not me Dad I was sixteen) and waiting for the five pasy midnight train to Milan.....No sign of it on the board yet "Dont worry lads any minute now".................

Needless to say the train did not happen as our lovely French friends were on 48 hour industrial shut down. No way forward or back from Paris. So the four of us spent two nights in wonderful Paris. Not really my fav place at the best of times. We also had no french francs and all being hard up kids we stayed in a hotel in the roughest part of Paris which was pretty scary. Finally turned back and ironicially got back to the UK just as we were docking at Dover.

Called Dad. "How we playing Dave - Must be half time" Dad said - "Get the kettle on" I replied "be home in a hour."..................

I went to both Fiorentina and Cosenza. Did the club's flights to both. Didn't see any trouble - all seemed friendly. Exchanged scarves with a Cosenza fan before the game then had the joy of seeing Angell scoring a last-minute winner. We actually were in European competition longer than Man United that season. Happy days!
