So the peak of certain artists with more than a few albums.

Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory
U2 - Achtung Baby
Blur - Parklife
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
REM - Automatic for the People.

Any more for any more?

I'd argue that Joshua Tree was their creative peak, and that Achtung Baby was the start of the diminishing returns.

Metallica - The Black Album
Depeche Mode - Violator

Yeah I did consider that, but AB has some good tunes on it nonetheless.

The Jam - Setting Sons (although I personally prefer All Mod Cons

I find that , in the main, the first Album is the best, I don't recall a 2nd Album getting that accolade * , with the third sometimes coming good. Beyond that is rare

Edit * the Clash , Give em enough rope, maybe Boomtown Rats , Tonic for the troops

Oasis: WTSMG is better than Definitely Maybe.
Radiohead's 3rd (Ok Computer) is their best (possibly...just edging out The Bends).

I think most bands I can think of peak early, 1st or second album:

Oasis - Definitely maybe/ What's the story (1st and 2nd)
Prodigy- Experience/ Music for the jilted generation (1st and 2nd)
Guns n Roses - Appetite for destruction (1st)
Arctic Monkeys - whatever people say I am... (1st)
The Libertines - Up the bracket/ The Libertines (1st and 2nd)
The Strokes - Is this it (1st)
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses (1st)
Pearl Jam - Ten (1st)
Nirvana - Nevermind (2nd)

Off the top of my head, sure there are many more

To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
The Queen Is Dead -The Smiths

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness- The Smashing Pumpkins

I'm don't know a lot of these bands very well but I think myself and the majority of people would not agree that:

In Utero is better than Nevermind
Electric Ladyland is better than Are you Experienced
