Any Billy Best stories?

: D Does any one have any Billy Best stories? Has he been to Roots Hall recently? Does anyone recall his last visit and whether he was held in high reverence? Does anyone know his life course after returning to Northempton Town after his four years with us? Guess you know he is the Heor of my teenage youth!!!!

Hey now I am registered. I am a fan from the mid 1960's to mid 1970's. Any one who likes those days is ok by me!

I believe he lives up near Northampton. ShrimperZone were due to be doing an interview with Billy last year; I guess we'll get on the case again ...

He still lives close to Northampton, still working and met Nobbler at a pub near the ground on our last visit there. He last came back to Southend for Ernie Shepherd's funeral. Ernie was well documented in saying that "Billy Best was my best ever signing."

Good to know he is still alive and well. He must be around 62 now. Is the interview still buried on this website somewhere?

We never got around to doing it. Hopefully SZ will organise something as part of the new "where are they now" series ...

In fact, Michael Owen of the 4th Division comes to mind !

You are right, but he had the ability just to appear from nowhere and snap, the ball was in the net. And he was pint size! Oh for a player of his talent now. I think Gower is one of the most exciting finds lately. He oozes class!
